The Washington Capitals and the fans have been waiting for a long time for the arrival of Russian prospect Evgeny Kuznetsov.   The Capitals are hoping that wait may be winding down. Kuznetsov was drafted the Caps in the first round of the 2010 NHL Draft, selected 26th overall.   He can be an electrifying goal scorer and seem to be gifted and creative in one-on-one situations.  Kuznetsov is gifted enough with ability to play all three forward positions.  That flexability will be critical for the Caps.   Don’t think of Kuznetsov as just a scorer.  He handles the puck quite well and has the ability to be an excellent feeder in scoring situations.  What he needs to work on is playing at a more disciplined level and most certainly in staying healthy. According to CSN report, Kuznetsov may be very close to joining the Caps. McPhee said he’s willing to trade prospects and draft picks for a player that can help the Capitals get into the playoffs, but it is believed he is also working behind the scenes on signing Kuznetsov for the Caps’ stretch run. Kuznetsov’s KHL team, Traktor Chelyabinsk, lost to Torpedo 1-0 over the weekend to fall behind Admiral for the final playoff spot in the East Conference. Afterwards, Kuznetsov seemed to already have his attention on the Capitals, wishing Alex Ovechkin luck against the Flyers with a tweet. The KHL regular season ends on Tuesday and if Admiral beats the KHL’s worst team, Amur, it clinches a playoff berth and eliminates Traktor, making Kuznetsov available to sign with the Capitals. If Admiral loses its final game and Traktor wins, Kuznetsov will need to complete his playoff commitment before joining the Capitals. Kuznetsov joining the Capitals would be similar to a significant trade deadline addition.  Furthermore, if possible, his presence may also put more step in an already red hot Alex Ovechkin.  In fact, Ovechkin will host Kuznetsov when he joins the Capitals. Kuznetsov played in 30 games this season at the KHL for Chelyabinsk Traktor.  He scored 7 gaols and 13 assists.
