With the Olympic Opening Ceremony such a short time away, some may say that sending NHL players to Sochi could be a potential risk for the players. Not only for hockey players, but all athletes that are taking place in the 2014 Olympic Games have not only their safety, but their friends and family, in the back of their minds.   Is it safe?? Not only are there safety issues, there are other risks that NHL players will face. With 150 impeccable athletes, 10 of which are part of the Chicago Blackhawks, heading to the games, the NHL will be shutdown for almost a month while the Olympics go on. Coaches and players alike will have to worry about potential injuries to star players and the lack of rest these Olympic athletes will face. The players making a run for the gold will play continuously through the Olympics and come back to face the last stretch of the season going straight into the playoffs. With all the buzz of safety issues going around and so many Chicago Blackhawks headed to Sochi, including Captain Jonathon Toews representing Canada, and Patrick Kane playing for the U.S.A., the players have talked about how they feel heading to the Olympics. Toews & Kane Provide Their Thoughts   Toews made it clear that he is ready and excited about the games despite all the stories and rumors of safety. “I think maybe a lot of that is a storyline and something for people to talk about. I feel confident bringing my family over there. That’s what I’m going to do and we’re going to enjoy the Olympics and we should be taken care of… I’ll go on that notion in thinking that everything will be safe for myself and my family and our team as well and all the other athletes. I’m just looking forward to the Games.” Chicago Blackhawks All-Star, and U.S.A Hockey Representative, Patrick Kane gave his thoughts on heading out of the country. “Everything seems to be in place over there to the point where we should be secure, we should be safe,” said the Blackhawks forward. “I guess there is a lot of talk about something happening, but that’s kind of out of our control. We know there’s going to be a lot of security there so hopefully everything goes according to plan . . . I’m sure everyone will be OK. But it’s kind of out of our control.” Toews and Kane seem to have the right mind set going into the games putting the main focus of course on their hockey game. Kane simply put it, “You have to worry about going over there and playing hockey and try not to worry about anything else.”  ________ Source(s): Calgary Herald; CSN Chicago Photo(s): Blackhawks; Team USA; Indian Head Nation Author informationOlivia HoganFeatured Columnist at Sports MockeryIf you have any questions or comments please contact info@sportsmockery.com - Thank you for reading.TwitterFacebookLinkedInThe post Is it a Mistake Sending our Chicago Blackhawks to Sochi? appeared first on Sports Mockery.
