When someone enters into Bridgestone Arena for a Nashville Predators game, one usually will hear country music singer Tim McGraw on the megatron singing the Preds version of "I Like It, I Love It", then afterwards hearing Gary Glitter's "The Hey Song" being played while 17,113 fans chant, "Hey! You suck" while pointing at the other team. However, is that about to change? Just several days ago, Gary Glitter was arrested for child sex abuse. Glitter is a convicted pedophile and in connection to a group of BBC staff members who molested children. It is time to make a change. Now back to hockey... Ryan Porth of Smashville 24/7 wrote an article asking NHL players where the toughest arena to play at is located--it is a great read, so check it out. Porth got a quote from Anaheim Ducks winger Bobby Ryan about playing in Bridgestone Arena. The Ducks forward said this, “If you’re not ready out of the gate, all of a sudden you hear that damn Tim McGraw song three times in the first five minutes." It obviously annoys the opponents, so why change it now? The reason to change it now is because it has been the Predators' goal song since the Inaugural Season in 1998. It gets old after awhile. To the rare Nashvillian who doesn't like country music--like myself--it is time to get something more upbeat. There hasn't been any ties to the goal song except having the city of Nashville's nickname being "Music City". Plus, not too often does Smashville get a visit from Tim McGraw because he is a football man first and foremost. To the alternative choices for a replacement goal song, here are five songs that could be played every time the Predators score a goal at Bridgestone Arena. 1. "Pennywise Tribute" - Bassnectar This was played as a goal song for a Predators preseason game at one point several years back. However, due to the mind automatically thinking Tim McGraw will show up on the megatron singing, it was shocking and therefore not successful in getting the crowd of possibly 8,000 to chant along. 2. "Zombie Nation" - Kernkraft 400 (Skip to 1:00) If this song doesn't get someone excited, they will never be excited in their life. Chanting to this song while the sirens go off to make it super loud would be great! "Zombie Nation" is taylor-made for NHL stadiums to make the crowd go crazy after a goal. And during the playoffs, Smashville could be so hyped after a goal, the fans could drown out the commentators from NBC, TSN, CBC and RDS. 3. "Maria (I Like it Loud)" - Scooter The Philadelphia Flyers used this goal song last season. Take a listen to the background after the Flyers score in Game 5 in a series with the New Jersey Devils last season here. This could work, but may be a stretch for it to fit in Nashville. A team in the KHL, possibly CSKA Moscow, uses this as their goal song as well. 4. "Crowd Chant" - Joe Satriani If Preds fans want something to chant to, this is it. "Crowd Chant" by Joe Satriani is a perfect goal song to get fans going after their team scores a goal. It really isn't much change in the things the fans want to do in a goal song. There is still clapping, chanting and of course the "Cellblock" could sneak in a "Let's Go Preds!" during an instrumental, when the guitar isn't leading us to chant, if that isn't confusing. The Minnesota Wild also use this as their goal song and does hype the crowd up quite a bit. 5. "The Lonely Boys" - The Black Keys Just for your information, the Buffalo Sabres version is in here because, as some could tell, they have the same goal horn as the Predators do. So, if the Preds played "The Lonely Boys" as their goal song, it would sound something like that. Also, "The Black Keys" are the hottest rock band in the nation right now.     These are just a few options that the Nashville Predators game operations could use as the next goal song. It wouldn't be right to continue to play a pedophile's song mainly because it would be awkward to be excited and cheer while the song is being played.
