In what has become a very odd story, free agent veteran goaltender Chris Osgood might return to the Detroit Red Wings or he might retire. What’s new? Osgood has faced organizational and introspective ambivalence regarding his future since succumbing to a groin injury soon after recording his 400th career win in late December.
Where the true confusion comes is whether or not the noon press conference scheduled by Red Wings GM Ken Holland is to announce Osgood’s retirement, or if he’s returning for an 18th season.
There have been conflicting reports in Detroit media circles. According to the Detroit Free Press and NHL.com, Osgood will return. On the contrary, mlive.com is reporting –with his agent cited as a source– that he will be hanging up his old bucket-style mask for good to become a developmental goaltending coach in the Detroit organization.
