Steven Stamkos' goal-scoring prowess is similar to Alex Ovechkin's of years past.Back in the 2005-06 season, the National Hockey League had two superstars enter its league: Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin. While we were all amazed about Crosby's ability to make places and produce, we were all excited to have a goal-scoring machine like Ovechkin. Ovechkin's goal totals in his first five seasons were quite astounding as he had seasons of 52, 46, 65, 56 and 50 goals.Unfortunately, Ovechkin's goal-scoring prowess has come to somewhat of a stop. However, another NHLer has taken his place and has done so in fine fashion. This player is Steven Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Stamkos, 22, was the No.1 selection in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft; to this point, he has not disappointed. In 309 career games, Stamkos has 167 goals and 146 assists for 313 points. He also has 60 power play goals, 24 game-winning goals and has taken 983 shots. While all of these statistics are impres...

Are the Capitals trying to get Dale Hunter fired?

The ambitious Washington Capitals are threatening to miss the playoffs and another coaching change appears inevitable.Dale Hunter has not had the desired impact since replacing Bruce Boudreau. He has come down hard on certain veterans (Mike Knuble and Roman Hamrlik in particular) without getting the desired results. Hamrlik appears doomed to spend the rest of the season as a healthy...

Video: Mike Green's elbow on Brett Connolly

Mike Green elbows a defenseless Brett Connolly who was already pinned to the boards by Dmitri Orlov. Brutal elbow by Green to Connolly's head. Connolly did skate off on his own and no penalty was called on the play. What a dumb decision by Mike Green to do. I guess it's not like he knows what it feels like to get a concus--- oh wait... he does.Even though no penalty...

Tokarski: He's on his way

I've been busy today. In fact with two of my co-workers going on vacation one after another at work, I've been balls-deep busy for like 3 weeks. But with the groin tear that Mathieu Garon suffered during the game against the Senators (he'll be out 3-4 weeks), the Lightning has called up Dustin Tokarski.!!!This is big.  I fully expect him to get starts while Garon is...

As first reported by Chris Johnston, Washington Capitals defenseman Mike Green has been suspended three games without pay for a high hit during Thursday's night's victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.  Green targeted the head with his forearm/elbow on the play against a defenseless Brett Connolly. It is hard to blame Brendan Shanahan for taking this course of action. Â...

Practice: Mar. 9

The Washington Capitals were on ice Friday morning for a practice following their come from behind win over the Lightning on Thursday. Some updates from Kettler Capitals Iceplex: All of the healthy forwards were on ice for the skate, certainly an improvement over the last week or so in which a lot of players have been taking options.  The lines were as follows: Johansson-Laich...

Carolina Hurricanes vs. Washington Capitals 3/6/12

Tuesday night's 4-3 overtime win over the Washington Capitals goes down as one of the most exciting Carolina games I have seen this year. With 85 combined shots and 44 scoring chances between both teams, you would expect an exciting contest. However, "exciting" and "good hockey" are not synonymous and this certainly was a sloppy played game by both teams....

Rapid Rewind: Shocked

The Washington Capitals managed to salvage their homestand on Thursday night, scoring a dramatic 3-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning inside Verizon Center.  Trailing late in the game again, the Caps found a way to tie off the stick of Marcus Johansson and win it off the stick of Alex Ovechkin.  Keith Aucoin also scored for the home side, who benefited from 24 saves from TomasÂ...
