TORONTO -- New York Islanders coach Jack Capuano gave the Toronto Maple Leafs credit for their fast start in racing to a 3-1 lead after the first period on Thursday night. "I just thought they executed much better. I thought they got in on the forecheck much harder and I think they executed their breakouts much better than we did in the first and they activated real well," Capuano said. "You can say our first period wasn't great, but I give a lot of credit to them and the way they played." But after that, the Islanders took charge and used a four-goal outburst in the third period to defeat the Maple Leafs 7-4 before a crowd of 19,125 at Air Canada Centre. Michael Grabner and Matt Moulson scored two goals each for the Islanders. Keith Aucoin, Mark Streit and Brad Boyes scored the others. Carl Gunnarsson, Mikhail Grabovski, Nazem Kadri and Matt Frattin scored for the Maple Leafs. "You can say we didn't have the first period that we wanted, bu...

Colton Orr And Deryk Engeland Awesome Hockey Brawl

Colton Orr and Deryk Engeland really like to fight each other. They had a few good brawls back in 2010 and tonight they continued it with a near minute and a half long boxing match.  This was one hell of a fight. It looks like Engeland got the worst of it. Report: Leafs without Lupul

Six to eight weeks, perhaps? That seems to be the standard period of absence for an NHL player with a broken/fractured forearm. So there's a good chance that's how long the Toronto Maple Leafs will have to manage without top-line forward Joffrey Lupul.  As reported by the Toronto Sun, preliminary X-rays revealed a fracture after Lupul took a shot (from teammate Dion Phaneuf...

Islanders Come to Town: Is the Power Play Improving?

Ok, so I am obsessed with Dougie Hamilton. I truly believe he is going to be a difference maker for this team's power play and defense. Even though he is just 19 years old he has already helped on both ends. On Wednesday against the Rangers Dougie made a few great checks to save scoring opportunities and ended the dreadful 0-11 power play when he blasted a puck from within...

Colton Orr And Deryk Engelland Beat The Crap Out Of Each Other (Again) Last Night

Colton Orr and Derek Engelland have a rivalry that dates all the way back to 2000, when they first dropped the gloves as youngsters in the Western Hockey League (WHL), and then later in the AHL and NHL. As you can see from the video above, that rivalry still burns pretty good to this day. Engelland has a history of getting the better of Orr (see here and here) but this latest bout...

‘Tuukka Time’ Strikes Again for Bruins as Islanders Try Rusty Rick DiPietro in Potentially Lopsided Matchup (Video)

Tuukka Rask has been stellar between the pipes for the Bruins so far, so coach Claude Julien appears ready to ride his goalie’s hot streak. Rask will start his fourth straight game to start the season on Friday night, with Rick DiPietro getting the nod for the Islanders for his first start since 2011. It would appear to be a matchup slanted in the Bruins’ favor, but DiPietro...
