Pro Sports Daily:
After a bit of a scare in Sunday night’s preseason finale in Barrie Ont. Islanders top-pair defenseman Travis Hamonic returned to practice on Tuesday and declared himself ready for the regular-season opener on Friday night in Newark against the Devils.
Hamonic took a hit from Senators forward Derek Grant in the first period of the Isles’ split-squad exhibition game and did not return. He was evaluated Monday night for what was assumed to be a concussion but he was cleared to play.
“It was either take a hit and make the play or don’t make the play” Hamonic said. “I chose to make it. It’s going to take a lot more than that to keep me out of the lineup on Friday.”

With two practices to go before Friday's season opener in Newark against the Metropolitan Division rival Devils Jack Capuano might yet juggle his top line again. But don't bet on it.
That would mean Kyle Okposo will get the nod on opening night to play top-line right wing with Matt Moulson and John Tavares. Okposo has filled that spot before to mostly middling success but...
The NHL’S best-kept secret is out of the bag.
The Islanders are no longer third-class citizens in the New York area and the brightest talent and perhaps biggest star in the New York area wears orange and blue not a blueshirt.
John Tavares and the Islanders rose from hockey Siberia last season nearly taking Pittsburgh to seven games in the first round of the playoffs.

You never know how the prospect is going to play as there is an adjustment that he has to make from lifestyle to the speed of the game. Gone are the chartered jets and top of the line hotels and back are the long bus rides and meals at...
4:31 pm: The Islanders are said to be treating Travis Hamonic for a possible concussion. No extended time expected for him to be out. Which is good.
3:06 pm: The NY Islanders have announced their 23 man roster for 2013-2014 season:
UNIONDALE, NY (September 30, 2013) â The New York Islanders announced today their 23-man roster as they enter the 2013-14 season. The lineup...
These Islanders have learned many hard lessons in their growing pains the past few years. The one that should stand out for the 2013-14 season one that engenders more promise for this team than any in a decade is that a slow start to the season is a sure way to irrelevance.
The numbers are quite stark: The last two 82-game seasons the Isles were near the bottom of the Eastern Conference...
The Islanders have announced their 23 man roster for the 2013/2014 season. Still no word on the extent of Travis Hamonic's injury but he has not been placed on injured reserve. This is encouraging. The Islanders have announced that defenseman Griffin Reinhart has made the team. They have nine games to decide if Reinhart stays with the team as their only option would be to...
