The New York Islanders are sending prospect forward Ryan Strome back to his junior team.
Strome was chosen with the No. 5 pick in this year's NHL draft. He was assigned to the Niagara IceDogs of the Ontario Hockey League. The 18-year-old center remained with the Islanders after playing in three preseason games, but wasn't in the lineup for New York's first two regular-season games.
The Islanders also announced before Thursday night's home game against the Tampa Bay Lightning that center Jeremy Colliton was taken off the injured list and placed on waivers. Colliton has yet to play this season because of a groin injury. He has three goals and three assists in 57 career NHL games with the Islanders over five seasons.
