On Tuesday, the Islanders announced on their official site that they will be holding a fundraiser at the Nassau Coliseum for the victims of Hurricane Sandy. The entire New York/New Jersey metropolitan area was hit by Hurricane Sandy, which left tens of thousands of area residents without homes and many more without power and heat. As a Long Island resident, I can attest to the damage that the storm had caused and while I still had my home I was without power for several days. There are still residents across the tri-state area who are left in the cold and aren’t being told when their electricity and heat will be turned back on.    The event is called “Hockey with a Heart” and will take place on November 12th between 2 and 8 PM at the Nassau Coliseum. Parking will be free and there will be open skates running hourly on a first come-first serve basis.
