BRIDGEPORT, CT - SEPTEMBER 30: Goaltenders Rick DiPietro #39 and Mike Dunham #1 of the New York Islanders celebrate after combining for a 3-0 shutout victory against the New Jersey Devils during their NHL pre season game on September 30, 2006 at the Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, Connecticut. New York Islanders goaltender Rick DiPietro is out indefinitely with a concussion.

DiPietro took a puck of his mask in practice Wednesday and did not play in Thursday's 5-1 win vs. Tampa Bay. He has yet to play this season.

Over the last three-plus seasons, DiPietro has played just 39 games due to a series of injuries. In 2007, he suffered a pair of concussions. He also has had surgery to repair a torn labrum in his hip and a series of procedures on his left knee.

In Sept. 2006, the Islanders signed DiPietro to a 15-year, $67 million contract. It is the longest deal since the new collective bargaining agreement was put in place in 2005.

The Islanders are off to a 2-1 start backstopped by goaltender Al Montoya, who has allowed four goals.
