Found January 11, 2012 on Rangers Review:
I was getting ready to write an article about how, sometimes, you play a really great game and lose. The Rangers have certainly been on the reverse end of that scenario many, many times during Henrik Lundqvists reign as king of NY. But, turns out I need not do that. Instead, the Rangers showed patience (get it, it’s a virtue…get it? I’m here all night folks) and poise, and manage to squeak by Mike Smith who was unquestionably the best player for either team on the night. Smith made some truly remarkable stops, particularly his grand larceny save on Marian Gaboriks penalty shot attempt. Frankly, I’m not sure even Henrik Lundqvist could have made that save. Though, to be fair, Henrik probably doesn’t bite on Gabbys fakes either to put himself out of position. Regardless, Smith recovered for what will surely be a contender in the save of the year race that TSN does every year. 1 questionable move was Torts putting John Mitchell in the shootout. Not sure I get that one. The g...

Coyotes' offensive options limited

As the Coyotes threw shot after shot at New York Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist to no avail in Tuesdays 2-1 shootout loss at Madison Square Garden, you couldnt help thinking: Gosh, if they only had a little more offense. Yeah. Don Maloney gets that a lot. Earlier in the season, the Coyotes general manger surprised some people by suggesting his first personnel move might be to...

Rangers capture shootout for fifth straight ‘W’

Ye of little faith. Yes, that means you, Henrik Lundqvist. “I was about to skate off,” The King admitted with a half-smile when questioned about his emotions when Marian Gaborik skated in on Phoenix netminder Mike Smith with the Rangers down to their final strike in last night’s shootout...

How About Six?

That is what the New York Rangers will be looking to do tonight against the hot Ottawa Senators. The Blueshirts have won five in a row and are currently playing a great brand of hockey. The club is getting timely goal scoring, great defense and excellent goaltending from both Henrik Lundqvist and Martin Biron. The team is also showing that they can win hockey games in many different...

Rangers-Coyotes in review

Thoughts: 1) This is one of my favorite of many stats so far through 40 games, with the mid-point of the season coming Thursday: Henrik Lundqvist, who has won seven in a row, has limited opponents to two goals or fewer 21 times in 29 starts. Holy shishkebob. Yet he was surprisingly 1-3 in shootouts before last night. “It was our turn to win this one and we deserved it, too...

Postgame: Rangers Edge Coyotes in Shootout for Fifth Straight Win

While this was an extremely frustrating game to endure as a fan of the New York Rangers, the Blueshirts again found a way to come out with two points for their fifth straight victory and tenth in their last eleven games. This game shouldn't have entered overtime or a shootout for that matter, as the Blueshirts had multiple chances to win it and gain a substantial lead within...

John Tortorella Postgame Interview After Win Over Coyotes

… I am glad he praised the third and fourth lines as they were huge this game, especially John Mitchell. Mitchell has heard a lot of hate towards him from a decent size portion of the fan base who believe Avery would be a better fit on the third line then him.  Mitchell played HUGE [...]

Another Day, Another Way for Rangers to Win

Usually, you find that teams winning 10 of their last 11 games are operating at a very high level as they polish off opponent after opponent without breaking much sweat. That hasn't been the case for the Rangers. They've had a few nights where they have simply overwhelmed the opposition, but they've also had nights where they came back to find a way to victory and they...
