Columbus Blue Jackets called up defenseman Nick Holden from AHL Springfield to take the roster spot of defenseman Nikita Nikitin, who went on injured reserve retroactive to Tuesday. Nikitin sustained an upper-body injury Tuesday in the Blue Jackets' 3-2 loss to the Wild in Minnesota. He sat out the next two games, and he's expected to miss about one more week, the team announced. Nikitin, 26, has no goals and two assists in seven games this season. Holden, 25, played five games with Columbus in 2010-11, his only NHL action. He was scoreless in that stint. In 44 games with Springfield this season, he had four goals and 18 assists. The Blue Jackets (3-5-1) play host to the Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday.

Columbus' Wisniewski injured when striking boards

Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman James Wisniewski has been helped off the ice after landing back-first against the end boards in the second period against the Detroit Red Wings. Wisniewski, who tied the game at 1 with a first-period goal Saturday night, was chasing the puck with teammate Nick Foligno. Detroit's Justin Abdelkader appeared to make contact with Foligno, who then...

Glen Miller: Analyzing Umberger's Regression Using Advanced Stats

During the 2010 – 2011 season RJ Umberger posted a career high 57 points (25 goals and 32 assists) and was rewarded by GM Scott Howson with a five-year contract extension worth $23MM, carrying a cap hit of $4.6MM annually. It seemed a wise investment at the time to lock up the 29 year-old forward a year before he would have hit unrestricted free agency. Umberger had posted goal...

Anisimov's 2 goals lead CBJ past Wings

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Artem Anisimov scored twice in the second period, and Steve Mason stopped 32 shots to lead the Columbus Blue Jackets past the Detroit Red Wings 4-2 on Saturday night. Mark Letestu added a short-handed goal, and James Wisniewski also scored for the Blue Jackets before leaving with an injury after he struck the end boards with his back early in the second period...

Davidson Hoping Blue Jackets Grow With Him

from Michael Arace of the Columbus Dispatch, “We’re 10 games in, but I think I’ve seen the good and the bad,” Davidson said. “When we’ve played to our max, we’ve played hard and with some passion, and when we do that, we play well defensively. That’s our reality. That is what we have to be. When we don’t care of the little details, the fundamentals, we don’t...

Jackets need to stop with the startingstopping

Starts and stops. If you play the game of hockey, youre familiar with stops and starts. Its a great conditioning drill, maybe not a lot of fun, but itll get the aerobic level up in a hurry. Its the favored drill for rehabbing players who have no issues with their legs, healthy scratches, and coaches maybe a bit upset with their teams last performance. But starts and stops arent good...

Red Wings-Blue Jackets quick take: egg-laying made easy

I don't know what the *#$%@& happened between last night's 5-3 victory over St. Louis and tonight's 4-2 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets--which was neither the fault of Niklas Kronwall nor Jimmy Howard--but my God, if the Wings think that they can play through the next ten slates of back-to-back games by slaying a dragon one night and being slain the next, they aren...

Anisimov Powers Columbus Blue Jackets to Victory

Photo courtesy of bluejackets.nhl.com By Tim Lucarelli (@tlucarelli) Entering last night’s matchup, the Columbus Blue Jackets were 1-3-1 all time on Groundhog Day, and more specifically, 0-3-0 when Buckeye Chuck predicted an early spring. Although Buckeye Chuck once again predicted an early spring, the Blue Jackets put forth what was likely their strongest 60 minutes of hockey...

Columbus Again - Gameday Movie Poster and Live Blog

Ready to have your mind blown?   Today is Jordin Tootoo's birthday.  What's today?  2/2... Happy birthday to the underutilized Wing. Also mind blowing?  How the NHL scoring leaders are apparently powered by ugly these days:  On another mind blowing note, more than 10% of the Wings games are against Columbus this year.  In fact, 18 of the 48...

GDT - Game 8:  Red Wings (4-2-1) at Blue Jackets (2-5-1)  7:00

DET flew into CBJ last night coming off a huge win and an epic performance by their Captain.  Zetterberg had a hand in every Red Wing point last night:  3G, 2A, 5pts, +3, he willed his team to victory; truly impressive. It'll be interesting to see how much gas the Wings have left in their tank.  CBJ aren't very good at all, 1.62 G/G (29), 3.12 GA/G (22), 0.42 5-5 F/A...

Glen Miller: Game Day Blog: Jackets To Take On Defending Champs

After a much-appreciated two days off the Jackets are back at it at Nationwide Arena tonight as Columbus plays host to the defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings. Columbus will have to make do with a patchwork defense corps tonight after placing both Adrian Aucoin (lower body injury) and Nikita Nikitin (upper body) on the injured list. John Moore is also set to miss the...
