Found February 01, 2012 on Holdout Sports:

Detroit Red Wings forward Jan Mursak had a bit of an embarrassing moment Tuesday night when an opponent's hockey stick got caught in the back of his jersey without him knowing it. Mursak skated almost a full minute of a shift dragging the stick behind him on the ice like a tail until he finally figured it out, and he needed the help of a linesman to remove the stick from his jersey.

It happened during the second period of Tuesday night's NHL game in Calgary as the Red Wings visited the Flames. Flames forward Blair Jones lost his stick in Mursak's jersey when he tried to hook him. The announcers got a kick out of Mursak skating around while carrying the extra stick as a tail. Mursak didn't get a chance to touch the puck before play was stopped, so there was no controversy stirred up by the play. Just a few good laughs.

Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard has a broken pinky finger, may be out for 2 weeks

Via DetroitHockey.net’s Clark Rasmussen and RedWingsFeed, Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard did speak to Piet Van Zant after his blocker hand took a ding from a collision with a Canucks player during last night’s win, but I’m not sure whether this Twitter post from Aaron Ward is accurate: Report out of Detroit that Joey McDonald has been called up.Jimmy Howard sustained a hand...

The Red Wings’ goalies are diametrical opposites when it comes to ‘Face Paint’

The Score has posted two videos regarding the Red Wings goaltenders’ masks over the past three weeks, and as it turns out, Ty Conklin is as uninterested in what adorns his mask as Jimmy Howard is particular about the design work Ray Bishop does for him. Here’s the Score’s clip of Ty Conklin shrugging off wearing a “back-up” mask from his last stint in Detroit… And...

Detroit picks up where it left off

Jiri Hudler scored the go-ahead goal at 11:29 of the third period to give the Detroit Red Wings a 3-1 victory over the Calgary Flames on Tuesday night. Flames defenseman Chris Butler lost his balance and fell inside the Calgary blue line, allowing Valtteri Filppula to wheel around him and carry the puck deep into the Calgary zone. Filppula's centering pass caromed off the side...

Red Wings mid-day mish-mash: questions, trade climatology, co-MVP’s, Happy Hudler and more McCrimmon

The Canucks are practicing right now in Vancouver, and the Red Wings won’t even hit the ice until 3 or 3:30 PM EST, so we’re looking at some very late-afternoon off-day updates, but that’s no excuse for sitting on Wings news till this evening for the sake of comprehensiveness’s sake. Given the Wings’ gritty 3-1 win over the Flames, Calgary’s moving tribute to Brad McCrimmon...

Red Wings vs Canucks Recap 2.2.2012

Another game, another two points. I'd say Detroit played a solid 53 minutes in regulation, then dominated the OT. It was just enough. Hopefully that bonus point to Vancouver doesn't come back to haunt us.Jump for an actual recap I gave Ericsson a ton of crap earlier this year for all of his mistakes. I also said that Kindl was the better of the two. Lately, that has switched...

Travis Moan to Detroit? No Thanks.

Updated 4:30 PM. We took a little break over the weekend, but one thing that didn’t was trade rumors.  So what are the Wings looking for? “To me, if we could get another heavy winger, or heavy forward, or D — those would all be good things to help you,” Babcock said, as reported by the Detroit News. “I put together a wish list every year, this time of year, and then...

Marty, Murray Howe confirm that Mr. Hockey is suffering from dementia

Red Wings legend Gordie Howe is in Vancouver to attend tonight’s Wings-Canucks game and then visit the WHL’s Vancouver Giants on Friday, so I wasn’t necessarily surprised when Sportsnet posted a photo gallery which accompanies their fantastic magazine article about how Mr. Hockey’s getting on just under three years after Mrs. Hockey passed away. It should come as little...
