Jaromir Jagr has been playing professional hockey for a long, long time. So long, that three of his new Devils teammates were not born when he made his NHL debut on Oct. 5, 1990. So long, that his trademark mullet was socially accepted as stylish for much of his career. Now, it appears that Jagr’s 20th NHL season will be his last. In a post on his personal Facebook page informing fans of his offseason training habits, the 41-year-old shared that he will likely hang up the skates at the conclusion of this season. “It looks like it will be my last season, so I can’t be too risky,” Jagr wrote on Tuesday. After a brief rental stint with the Bruins, the veteran winger signed a one-year, $2 million contract with New Jersey in July, making the Devils his seventh NHL team. He turns 42 in February and will enter the 2013-14 as the second-oldest player in the league behind Anaheim’s Teemu Selanne (43). In an example of history coming full circle, the Devils will open the regular season against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the team with whom Jagr spent the first decade of his career. In fact, he’ll see four of his former teams within the first month, as New Jersey also has early-season dates with the Bruins, Flyers and Rangers.
