On a night that saw the Los Angeles Kings score four first period goals and five total in a 5-2 defeat of the St. Louis Blues in game two of the Western Conference semifinals, Blues fans got more bad news regarding Jaroslav Halak.
Perhaps hoping Halak would be able to return to the lineup for game three and provide a spark, the Blues announced via their official Twitter page that Halak will not return for the semifinals against the Kings
Ken Hitchcock has ruled Jaroslav Halak out for the rest of this series vs. LA. #bluesplayoffs

Elliott, who did not receive much help from a lost, lazy, and unenthusiastic defensive effort from the Blues, played possibly his poorest game of the season, stopping just 16 of the 21 shots he saw.
Halak's absence from the r...

Blues upset with King's hit on Pietrangelo
The Blues dropped Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals 3-1 to Los Angeles Saturday night and they might have lost defenseman Alex Pietrangelo.
Pietrangelo left the game in the second period with a possible concussion after being shoved into the boards by LA's D.J. King. King received a two-minute minor penalty for boarding, and on the Blues' power play, LA scored...
Pietrangelo still a game-time decision
ST. LOUIS St. Louis Blues defenseman Alex Pietrangelo could return to the lineup tonight, coach Ken Hitchcock said Monday.
Pietrangelo left during the second period of St. Louis' 3-1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings in Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals Saturday at Scottrade Center after Kings winger Dwight King slammed him face-first into the boards. The action resulted...

Blues embarrassed by 0-2 series start to Kings
ST. LOUIS It was a scene St. Louis Blues fans hadn't experienced in quite some time.
Cheering sarcastically because the first period was almost over. Booing even louder when the visiting Los Angeles Kings scored yet another goal just before the end of the period.
But when it was all said and done and the painful remaining seconds had finally run off the clock, the Blues found...
Kerry Fraser On The Alex Pietrangelo Hit
from Kerry Fraser of TSN, I did not like this illegal hit or the penalty assessment one bit. Even if there had been the absence of an injury to the chin of Alex Pietrangelo, based on the degree of violence of the impact with the boards a major penalty was warranted under rule 41.3—boarding and needed to be identified as such. If this type of “check” from behind and resulting...
Blues in 0-2 hole
The Blues' home-ice advantage has done nothing for the club in Round 2. The road-warrior Los Angeles Kings won their fourth straight game in enemy territory Monday, 5-2, and now lead the best-of-seven Western Conference semifinals 2-0.
"If we play like we did (Monday) with not enough guys going, it's going to be tough to win wherever we are," Blues captain David...
The Good Guys Win If Pietrangelo Plays Tonight
from Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, * If Blues defenseman Alex Pietrangelo can play in Game 2, which now seems possible, it will be a terrific triumph for the Blues, and an uplifting development in this series. If Petro can play, the Kings would have failed in the attempt to rub him out. And the Blues will have regained the services of their best all-around player...
T.J. Oshie flattens Dustin Penner with clean hit (Video)
St. Louis Blues center T.J. Oshie flattened Los Angeles Kings left winger Dustin Penner with a clean hit in the third period of Monday night's Game 2 of their NHL playoff series.
Oshie hit Penner in the chest with his shoulder and took him down on the Kings end of the ice. Penner got up and went after Oshie, leading to a scrum between the teams. Blues left winger David...
Could Jason Arnott and Jamie Langenbrunner Be On Brian Burke’s Radar?
With rumors swirling around the internet and the daily rags about Roberto Luongo’s future with the Vancouver Canucks and a possible trade to the Toronto Maple Leafs, I couldn’t help but think back to last summer’s UFA signings and how they panned out for their respective teams.
Sure, big trades and big signings are what drives the headlines, but what about the smaller, less...
Jeff Quirin: It's the little things that kill... | Reaction to King Hit + Petro Update
The St. Louis Blues made quite a living this season - 48 wins, 109 points, and a Central Division title - off of painstaking attention to detail. Get pucks deep, backcheck hard, block shots, smart passes... all the cliche sayings heard during an intermission interview about how to win the game or get back into it.
In the first game of their second round matchup against the LA...

Video: T.J. Oshie delivers big hit on Dustin Penner
The St. Louis Blues lost game two of their second round series against the Los Angeles Kings in part because of a lack of physical play in a lackluster first period that saw them fall behind 4-0 by the time the first intermission came.
The Blues lost the game 5-2 and played better in the second and third periods, out-shooting the Kings 24-5 in the second and third periods...
