Jaroslav Spacek, currently a defenceman playing for the Carolina Hurricanes, could find himself in the black and gold of the Boston Bruins next season.

According to Kevin Paul Dupont of the Boston Globe, the Bruins took a strong run at acquiring the 38-year-old from the Hurricanes prior to the NHL’s trade deadline, but Carolina’s asking price was too high. But that’s not the only reason why Spacek could end up a Bruin next season. Dupont also had this to say:

…a close pal of Spacek’s says that he would have loved the opportunity here in the Hub of Hockey. On target to be an unrestricted free agent July 1, perhaps he will get his chance.

Waiting until the free agent market opens on July 1 would allow the Bruins to acquire the veteran defender without having to concede anything but salary cap space.

Spacek was traded to Carolina from the Montreal Canadiens earlier this season and has since scored four goals and has assisted on another seven in 30 games with the Hurricanes.
