Jay Bouwmeester Shrugs Off Critics, Starts Season Strong

by Rita MingoFiled under: Flames, WesternCALGARY - When the Calgary Flames acquired the much-sought-after Jay Bouwmeester during the summer of 2009, it was expected he would provide stability on the blueline, while frequently pitching in on the offensive side of things. At no time during his tenure as a Flame has he displayed those aptitudes more than the past month or so. "It feels alright,'' suggested the soft-spoken Bouwmeester, as the Flames held an optional skate in preparation for the Vancouver Canucks game Wednesday night. "Sometimes the results are better depending on certain games. I feel good and that's all I'm worried about right now.'' The 6-foot-3 native of Edmonton, lately teamed with veteran Robyn Regehr, has been one of the Flames' most effective players in recent weeks.
