Suffice to say that a 3-0 series deficit was not the plan. The powerplay is more miserable than it has ever been, and that is saying a lot. Brad Richards has, in one season, gone from playoff hero to playoff zero. Injuries are affecting important players. The Rangers look like a team with no confidence.
That being said, at some point we have to acknowledge that the Bruins are a good team. A really good team. A really, really good team. They have the right combination of high-end talent along with strong depth and a confident, talented goaltender. This is a team that won the Stanley Cup two seasons ago and could be on their way to another one. Jeff Gorton was GM of the Bruins for not even four full months, yet is a big reason behind the success of this Bruins team. Jeff Gorton is also the current Assistant General Manager of the New York Rangers. Ironically, the Bruins' beating up on the Rangers, though far from preferable, does in some sense give hope for the future. Let...
BEST OF MAXIM
With the New York Rangers’ season on the line tonight, their alternate captain will not be in the lineup to do battle with them. No, I’m not talking about Marc Staal, who is sidelined indefinitely with an eye injury. I’m talking about Brad Richards. You know – the guy who signed a mega contract two [...]
Per Andrew Gross, Brad Richards will be a healthy scratch tonight. Richards was on the ice with the extra skaters following today’s optional skate. For those saying players are never held accountable, here’s your proof that they ARE held accountable.
From ESPN InsiderAs soon as the news broke that forward Brad Richards was pegged to be a healthy scratch for Game 4, talk of pending compliance buyout resumed with fresh energy. And not without reasonable justification. If the 33-year-old center isn't going to be part of the New York Rangers' long-term plans, he very well may be bought out this summer. Carrying an annual...
Rangers coach John Tortorella was at his potty-mouthed best when discussing his feelings about Brad Richards after making the veteran a healthy scratch for Game 4.
Struggling Rangers center Brad Richards said he will be a healthy scratch when New York faces elimination in Game 4 against the Boston Bruins on Thursday night.
Richards, a star player earning $12 million this season, stayed on the ice with the extras Thursday during the morning skate. He then confirmed that Rangers coach John Tortorella had called to tell him he would be sitting...
Brad Richards says he is not playing tonight. He said Tortorella called him this morning to tell him.

All the hoopla before Game 4 between the Rangers and Bruins at Madison Square Garden on Thursday revolved around New York coach John Tortorella's decision to make Brad Richards a healthy scratch.
Richards is making $12M this year, but only has one goal in the playoffs. He's also a Conn Smythe Trophy winner, AND won the Cup with Torts as his coach when the two were with the...
There was once a time when New York Rangers center Brad Richards was one of the better offensive players in the league. Just three years ago, he racked up 24 goals and a whopping 67 assists in a single season. On Thursday night, that same Brad Richards was a healthy scratch for Game 4 against the Boston Bruins.
With his team in a 0-3 hole, Rangers coach John Tortorella decided it...
Big picture outlook > lockout shortened season.
After the Rangers loss against Boston Sunday night, much of the Rangers fan base went into panic mode. The usual suspects came out and called for Tortorella’s head, Michael Del Zotto’s and to some extent Brad Richards, as if the loss was solely on them. We’ve been down this road before, and quite frankly, I wasn’t surprised...
New York Rangers head coach John Tortorella announced that Brad Richards will be a healthy scratch for tonight's Game 4 against the Boston Bruins.
The Rangers will also play defenseman Roman Hamrlik in place of the injured Anton Stralman.
Richards has been struggling throughout the playoffs and has been playing on the fourth line. Richards played a postseason-low 8:10 in Game...
Classic John Tortorella, the guy is a gem. Earlier in the game, Torts was caught on audio cussing out a lines man and dropping the F-bomb. In the course of one night, Torts cussed out the on-ice officials and told the writers to kiss his ass and won a hockey, so he keeps his job for at least another day... It pretty much sounds like he's going to get fired if the Rangers don...
While it's really not all that surprising considering his performance and lack of ice time in the playoffs, I'm still in shock to read that Brad Richards will be a healthy scratch in Game 4 tonight.
According to Katie Strang at ESPN.com, John Tortorella called Richards at home this morning to break the news to him.
Richards admitted he was surprised and disappointed...

The Rangers are facing a steep climb to get back into this series, but it all starts with one game. As Kevin said yesterday, one shift at a time. If you win each shift, you’ll win the game, and that should be the priority for the Rangers. The biggest news is that Brad Richards is a healthy scratch and Anton Stralman is out tonight with an undisclosed...
