During Wednesday’s AHL game between the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Baby Penguins and the Charlotte Checkers, Pens forward and former Hurricane Jesse Boulerice was given a 10-minute misconduct for “abuse of officials” and has subsequently been suspended for 10 games. Add this to a long list of stupid plays and senseless violence exhibited in his sorry career. He was once banned for an entire season from the Ontario Hockey League after a stick-swinging incident. He was suspended for 25 NHL games when he brutally cross-checked Ryan Kesler in 2007. Now he’s proving that he can get himself suspended at any level.

Although I heard a couple of different accounts about what happened in Charlotte, the official report indicates that Boulerice was arguing with an on-ice official about a no-call, and he ended up bumping the official. He was deemed to have “deliberately applied physical force to an official without intent to injure”, and that offense has a mandatory 10-game ban as dictated by AHL rule 40.3.
