Sakic, a native of the Vancouver suburb of Burnaby who recorded 1,641 points in 20 NHL seasons, was named to the Hall Wednesday during a news conference at Rogers Arena in Vancouver. "Obviously, being a B.C. boy and growing up in the Vancouver area, it's a tremendous honor for myself to be inducted in the B.C. Hockey Hall of Fame," said Sakic via telephone from Colorado. Sakic will join the Hall with former player and coach Jack McIlhargey, who grew up in Burnaby; former NHL referee Rob Schick of Port Alberni, B.C.; Dr. Duncan Wray, who owns the powerhouse Vernon Vipers of the Junior A BC Hockey League; and the 1986 Penticton Knights team which became the first B.C. team to win a national title in 1986.
