No matter what some fans may think of Red Wings forward Johan Franzen, it would appear that the team needs him. Winless in the three games without Franzen, the Wings will once again be without the Mule Tuesday when they take on the Nashville Predators in a rematch of last season’s Western Conference quarterfinals. The Detroit Free Press, reported Tuesday by way of head coach Mike Babcock that Franzen is still feeling the effects of a hip flexor and will sit out his fourth straight game. In 12 games this season Franzen has 3 goals and 6 assists after leading the team with 29 goals last year. Meanwhile the Wings did make a roster move Tuesday recalling goaltender Jonas Gustavsson from Grand Rapids who had been on loan on a conditioning stint. Gustavsson has been out since the first game of the season dealing with a groin injury. In turn Detroit sent rookie goaltender Petr Mrazek back to the Griffins after his 3-2 loss to the Minnesota Wild Sunday night. h/t: Detroit Free Press

Pavel Datsyuk goes one-on-four to score goal (VIDEO)

Pavel Datsyuk’s dangles are borderline unfair.  Tuesday night at Nashville with the Red Wings trailing 3-2 late in the third, Datsyuk decided that he didn’t need no stinkin’ teammates. Pav took the puck out of the Wings’ zone, headed up the center of the ice where he met three Predators waiting at their blue line.  Instead of the drop-and-chase, Datsyuk went magician-like...

How to Beat the Goalie: Howard

(Photo by: Tom Gromak/Flickr) Entering the season, the Detroit Red Wings have high expectations for Jimmy Howard. Red Wings-Predators wrap-up: was this a belief-builder or just another case of not gettin’ ‘er done?

The Detroit Red Wings may very well look back on Tuesday night's 4-3 overtime loss to Nashville, a game which they trailed 2-0, started without Mikael Samuelsson (broken hand?), finished without Jimmy Howard (Blurry vision? Concussion?) and nearly finished without Niklas Kronwal (hit from behind) and Cory Emmerton (blocked a shot with his face), and almost lost 3-2 until Pavel...

The Main Hatchway’s Given In

Just go ahead and let it fly.  The vomit.  Don't be embarrassed.  We'll laugh, because watching adults throw up is funny.  But we'll be spewing vomitus at the same time, which will ramp up the hilarity to a redolent degree. Mikael Samuelsson is on the PP point.  Tatar is the "big net front presence".  Dan Cleary on the first unit. The Wings have lost...

Pregame? with 1/3rd the Effort
