BOSTON — The Rangers’ season began on Jan. 19 at TD Garden in Boston. On Saturday, in Game 5 of their second-round series with the Bruins, New York’s season came to an end. At times, the Rangers showed a little bit of spark here and there, but by and large, the Bruins were far and away the better team on their way to winning the series 4-1. Following Boston’s 3-1 win in the deciding game (the same score as the game between the two teams on opening night), the Rangers admitted as much. “They deserved to win,” Rangers head coach John Tortorella said. “They were the better team. They deserved to win.” Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist, who pointed to “lucky bounces” as the reason for the Bruins’ success in the series’ early games, also gave the B’s their respect. The goalie, who sat for about 10 minutes with his head in his hands in his dressing room stall after the game, eventually stood in front of the media and praised Boston for its play. “After their power-play goal, they just took

  • Boston did play well, or were the Rangers just that bad?? Doesn't matter because Pittsburgh is winning it all this year.

NY Rangers Coach John Tortorella Screams ‘F*ck You’ At Ref (Video)

Torts is just being Torts. Rangers Coach and Darth Vader’s step brother, John Tortorella let a linesman have it during Thursday’s game 4 against the Bruins in the 3rd period. After a delayed call by the officials let the Bruins have a second shot at a goal Torts proceeded to go crazy. Rangers' Lundqvist has to talk to agent about contract extension

As if the New York Rangers' 4-1 series loss in the Eastern Conference Semi-finals to the Boston Bruins wasn't bad enough, Rangers fans will have something pretty big to worry about over this off-season. No, not worries about Brad Richards and Rick Nash. Not worries about coaching and if that contributed to an offense that basically didn't exist. No, they have...

Torts fires back at media over Richards

Rangers coach John Tortorella was at his potty-mouthed best when discussing his feelings about Brad Richards after making the veteran a healthy scratch for Game 4.

Rangers face questions after 2nd-round ouster

Henrik Lundqvist's disappointment began before the final buzzer sounded on the New York Rangers' season in Boston. An empty-net goal in the closing seconds, while Lundqvist watched from the bench, turned a one-goal deficit into a Game 5, season-ending loss in the Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Bruins. Lundqvist slammed his stick on his way back to the net...

Torts takes the blame for series loss against Boston

Rangers Coach John Tortorella took the blame for his team’s loss on Saturday (courtesy of newsday.com) The Saga that is John Tortorella finally ended….well at least for this season it did, on Saturday. Rangers weren't emotionally ready for round 2

It seems the New York Rangers' first-round playoff win over the Washington Capitals took a lot more out them than it appeared. The toll was more mental than physical. The Rangers rallied from a 3-2 series deficit in the opening round and advanced with back-to-back shutout wins in the final two contests - culminating with a 5-0 rout in Game 7. But when the time came to take...

John Tortorella explains his decision to sit Brad Richards

Classic John Tortorella, the guy is a gem. Earlier in the game, Torts was caught on audio cussing out a lines man and dropping the F-bomb. In the course of one night, Torts cussed out the on-ice officials and told the writers to kiss his ass and won a hockey, so he keeps his job for at least another day... It pretty much sounds like he's going to get fired if the Rangers don...

John Tortorella to critics of Brad Richards decision: ‘Kiss my a**’

There was once a time when New York Rangers center Brad Richards was one of the better offensive players in the league. Just three years ago, he racked up 24 goals and a whopping 67 assists in a single season. On Thursday night, that same Brad Richards was a healthy scratch for Game 4 against the Boston Bruins. With his team in a 0-3 hole, Rangers coach John Tortorella decided it...

NHL playoffs: Best of Thursday

Brooks: NHL’s ‘cap recapture’ mechanism for lifetime contracts lurks as a franchise-killing clause

The New York Post's Larry Brooks penned a superb recap of the Rangers' 3-1 loss to the Boston Bruins on Saturday night, wondering what the future holds for Henrik Lundqvist and Rick Nash's team, but his main Sunday column includes ponderings about the Flyers tossing an offer sheet at Ryan McDonaugh, others tossing money at RFA's-to-be Kevin Shattenkirk and Alex Pietrangelo...

Claude Julien Continues to Embrace Pressure of Coaching in Boston As Achievements Mount

BOSTON — It was only one loss, but given the head coach’s track record, thoughts of another all-time historic meltdown started to creep into the minds of fans and pundits alike. It is, of course, absurd to think that a team with a 3-0 series lead is doomed after that series lead becomes 3-1, but not all teams have blown 3-0 series leads before. The Bruins under Claude Julien...

Goonies Never Say Die

Just when I thought I couldn't love Chris Kreider any more after his Game 4 overtime winner, he dropped this bomb when asked about the Rangers chances in this series after the game (via NHL.com)... "Goonies never say die." ...amazing! Seriously, has any professional athlete ever used that line before? In my opinion, it needs to be used more. Should easily...
