Chicago Blackhawks News – Jonathan Toews is a member of an elite hockey club which features only 26 memberships. “Triple Gold Club” status is achieved by winning “the three most important championships available to the sport” according to the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). The championships include a World Championship, Olympic Gold Medal and The Stanley Cup.
Jonathan Toews Triple Gold Club
2007 World Championships
Toews won the Ice Hockey World Championship as a member of Team Canada in 2007. The tournament, held in Moscow, Russia, consisted of mostly professional players while he was only in his second year of college. Even without the experience of other players he contributed 7 points in 9 games.
Jonathan Toews made his Olympic debut for Team Canada in his home country. He looked fantastic for the natives in Vancouver as he tied for the team lead in points with 8. In the Gold Medal Game vs. USA he scored the first goal to open the scoring in the 3-2 OT win. His stellar play earned him the Best Forward and Tournament All-Star honors.
2010 Stanley Cup Finals
His performance during the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs was nothing short of remarkable. He amassed 29 points with 7 goals and 22 helpers on his way to the Conn Smythe Trophy. Toews became the youngest player to join the Triple Gold Club on June 9, 2010 in Philadelphia, PA.
Big Time Player
Captain Serious steps his game up for the big moments. It is almost unfair to say he was only a member of these championships squads. He was such a huge contributor to these teams while winning multiple individual awards. When he joined the Triple Gold Club at 22 years and 42 days he became one of the most decorated North American players in history.
If he wins gold this year he will be the only North American with two Gold Medals and two Stanley Cups.
