The Canadian men’s Olympic hockey team had the day off on Saturday, and they spent their free time to taking in country’s other favorite winter sport: Curling. The entire team was in attendance as the men’s squads from Canada and Great Britain squared off at the Ice Cube Curling Center in Sochi. Most came decked out in Canadian colors, but goalie Roberto Luongo and center Jonathan Toews took their fandom to an even greater level. Check it out in the photos below. 2014 Winter Olympics: Team Canada comes back with huge win

Team Canada finished their second game of the Sochi Winter Olympics this morning with a huge 6-0 win over Austria. Coach Babcock had tampered with the lines before this game, and it seemed to be the difference maker between thisgame and the Norway game. Here are some takeaways from the game in case you missed it: Jeff Carter scored a natural hat trick in a 6-0 win for Team Canada...

Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks:Luongo's Great Lid, Setting Up Finland, US/Russia Classic

Let's start here today. I'm happy to see that Roberto Luongo and the rest of Team Canada are keeping it loose in the face of the Olympic pressure. Here's the group watching Canada's Brad Jacobs at curling: @strombone1 nice bucket man lol. #beauty pic.twitter.com/J7tXarCiBe— Ryan Harnden (@RyanTHarnden) February 15, 2014 This is the fashion sense you can...

Brandon Pirri unsure about future with Blackhawks

This season's been a roller coaster for Brandon Pirri. He made the Blackhawks' roster out of training camp and later found himself sent down, recalled, sent down again, recalled again and scratched. The Blackhawks most recently sent him back to Rockford when they traded for Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Peter Regin just before the Olympic break. With the addition of Regin filling...

Canada Hammers Austria

Jonathan Toews had one assist and took a team-high 18 faceoffs (winning 10) as Canada blew out Austria 6-0 on Friday evening in Sochi. Jeff Carter had a natural hat trick in the second period to lead the scoring parade. … Continue reading →The post Canada Hammers Austria appeared first on Committed Indians.

Patrick Kane gets stoned on a breakaway in overtime

Team USA forward Patrick Kane didn’t have a great game against the Russians on Saturday and had a chance to redeem himself in overtime. Unfortunately for Kane, his shot five-hole on Sergei Bobrovsky didn’t work. Kane could be seen on camera later saying “f**k me,” so you know that nobody feels worse about his game than he does. USA got the much-needed victory though and I’m...

McDonald's has no idea what Patrick Kane looks like

Patrick Kane is one of the most recognizable names and faces in the NHL. Prior to T.J. Oshie's heroics against Russia, Kane may have also been the most familiar name on Team USA. Because of this, it was really no surprise when McDonald's selected him to be in their advertising campaign for the Winter Olympics in Sochi.  Unfortunately, McDonald's kind of butchered...

Patrick Kane Lip Reading After Breakaway Fails

Sochi, Russia – The scene was set. USA and Russia all knotted-up at 2-2 in overtime.  The puck squirts free and 88 of the United States emerges all alone on the breakaway! Russia’s Sergei Bobrovsky slams the door on him and Patrick Kane let it rip…. He knew he missed his moment. A chance to add another notch in his proverbial belt had slipped through is fingers.  Don...

Patrick Kane playing with heavy heart

It's still only February and the arctic chill and car-high snow drifts back in South Buffalo give the impression that this winter from North Pole will never end. And yet Patrick Kane is perhaps just a little bit afraid for summer to come. He knows that there will be many lonely days. Who's he going to play Texas Hold 'Em with? Who's going to deal five-card draw...

Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks: Luongo Shuts Out Austria, Trevor Linden Olympic Memories

It's Valentine's Day! I'm not a big believer in greeting-card holidays, but this is a great opportunity to earn some bonus points with an unexpected gesture, however small. Now, back to hockey... With Switzerland playing Sweden head-to-head on Friday, there was no way for our Canuck Olympians to all remain undefeated. That said, both teams did their best not to...

Canucks Weber cleared for Sochi

Vancouver Canucks Yannick Weber has been cleared by his team doctors to head to the Sochi Olympics and will play for Switzerland. Weber has been sidelined from playing hockey since the beginning of February with an undisclosed injury. Weber left the game on January 31st during the first period with an undisclosed injury and nobody knew how long the defenseman would be out for or...

John Jaeckel: Ol' Uncle JJ's Big Prospect Roundup

Follow JJ on Twitter @jaeckel! So while Marian Hossa and Michal Handzus prepare for an early exit from the Olympics along with a Slovakia club I had pegged for the bronze (ouch), and Patrick Sharp, Jonathan Toews, Duncan Keith, Marcus Kruger, Johnny Oduya, Niklas Hjalmarsson and Patrick Kane are all headed for the medal round . . . I took some time over Valentine's Day...

Canucks' Burrows on the shelf again with "sprained hand"

Maybe instead of having his last name on the back of his sweater, Vancouver Canucks' winger Alex Burrows should have "Fragile, handle with care."The veteran winger was injured in a brief dust up with Toronto Maple Leafs' Phil Kessel - suffering a sprained hand according to various reports - after Burrows engaged the NHL's second-leading goal scorer with...

Happy 25th Anniversary, Jeremy Roenick!

Happy Valentine’s Day, and happy anniversary to an all-time Blackhawks great! It was 25 years ago today – Feb. 14, 1989 – that Jeremy Roenick scored his first NHL goal with the Chicago Blackhawks. Roenick scored his first goal in … Continue reading →The post Happy 25th Anniversary, Jeremy Roenick! appeared first on Committed Indians.

Carter's hat trick leads Canada past Austria 6-0

After the final horn, Jeff Carter tried to give the game puck to Roberto Luongo in honor of the goalie's latest Olympic shutout. Luongo handed it right back, claiming Carter's hat trick was a bigger deal. Carter and Luongo both realize Canada still has plenty of time to pick up more souvenirs in Sochi, and they've all got their eyes on something a bit shinier than a...

The Canadian Hockey Team is having fun during their day off

On a day that T.J. Oshie became a national hero in the United States, the Canadian hockey team had a full day off at the Olympics. There are only a few options...stare at Sochi's palm trees or go watch other events. Team Canada chose the latter.Canadian goalie Roberto Luongo has never shied away from an opportunity to be a goof-ball (especially on a no game/no practice day)....
