July 1 is viewed by many as the best day of the hockey year.
It’s the beginning of free agency. You know, that time when teams are awarded the Stanley Cup based on the money they’ve spent to bring in, and likely overpay, players. However, this year was much different. On a day dubbed “Free Agent Frenzy”, July...

A couple of things.
1. If you were signing off on where you were going to go for the prime of your career you'd probably wait a day too.
2. Interesting because Suter wasn't going to decide today either...

Just got home and checked in. From a Canes standpoint I see...
Jordan Staal officially signed for 10 years at $60M. I don't think this is a discount (it's the same deal that the Pens offered him). I actually think it is a little high. But it is well within the range of reasonable and also an important thing to get done this summer.
Ray Whitney signs for 2 years...
This is an exciting time of year for people who like to play pretend GM or GM predictor. The Canes possibilities are all over the board heading into the free agent frenzy.
History would say that the Canes already made their big move with Jordan Staal.
But the local beat writer has mentioned Ryan Suter since then.
And Rutherford has vaguely mentioned adding another forward...
