PLAYERS: Tuukka Rask
TEAMS: Boston Bruins
On Wednesday, Claude Julien acknowledged the struggles affecting netminder Tuukka Rask. “Right now [Rask] feels great. He doesn’t feel tired,” Julien said, per the Boston Herald. “He just doesn’t feel his game is where it should be. We all agree on that.” Rask, in the first of an eight-year, $56 million deal, has fallen on hard times lately. He’s gone 2-7-0 since shutting out Ottawa on Dec. 27, getting hooked twice — once in a 4-3 loss to the Sens, and again in a 4-2 loss to L.A. While he has posted some good efforts over this stretch — including a 36-save win over Winnipeg and a 26-save shutout over San Jose — Rask has been inconsistent. He’s struggled to follow up one good performance with a second solid outing, and has a .898 save percentage in January.

Tuukka Rask points at everything in B’s slump

One of the many ways in which hockey is really a very simple game: A goalie usually plays as well, or as poorly, as the team in front of him plays. That’s not always the case. But most of the time it is. In many recent games, Tuukka Rask hasn’t looked quite himself. Too many seemingly stoppable pucks eluded him. But if he hasn’t played great, neither has the team in front...

Bruins Goalie Chad Johnson Played Part Of Second Period While Missing Conctact

The most dreaded scenario for anyone who wears contact lens is losing one of them and having to go about things with just one contact. It’s almost worst than trying to see without both contacts. Boston Bruins goalie Chad Johnson was put in that precarious position Thursday night. Johnson, however, had to do so while playing goalie in the National Hockey League. Johnson was shaken...

Torey Krug, Ryan Spooner Look Back On Days As Former Roommates While With P-Bruins (Video)

With 22 NHL games under his belt, Ryan Spooner is making his home with the Boston Bruins this season, but it was less than a year ago that he was driving one of his teammates crazy in Providence. While with the P-Bruins last season, Spooner lived with Torey Krug and Bruins prospect Jared Knight. Spooner revealed that Krug served as the father figure in the apartment as he was always...

Zdeno Chara Named Olympic Flag Bearer For Slovakia At Sochi Winter Games (Video)

Zdeno Chara is one of five Boston Bruins players who will represent his country at the 2014 Winter Olympics next month, and the B’s captain also will perform one special task not related to hockey while in Sochi. Chara will serve as Slovakia’s flag bearer for the opening ceremonies, which may force him to miss one or two of Boston’s game before the Olympic break. The veteran...

Boston Bruins Think Key To Fixing Special Teams Is ‘Simple’ One

WILMINGTON, Mass. — The Boston Bruins are in a bit of a special teams rut, and maybe they can turn to Dwight Schrute for the key to fixing things. There’s a great episode of The Office (one of many great episodes) in which Dwight explains a bit of advice from his manager Michael Scott. “Michael always says, ‘K-I-S-S, keep it simple, stupid.’ Great advice, hurts my feelings...

Reilly Smith On Return To Dallas: It’s A Business Trip (Video)

For the first time since being acquired in the Fourth of July blockbuster trade, Loui Eriksson and Reilly Smith will return to Dallas on Thursday when the Bruins take on the Stars. The two have slightly different approaches to their homecomings, however. Eriksson, who spent his entire NHL career with the Stars before sporting the spoked-B, talked about the upcoming trip with a sense...

Zdeno Chara to carry Slovakian Olympic Flag, miss NHL games

Five Boston Bruins players will be representing their countries in the 2014 Winter Olympics next month, but Bruins captain Zdeno Chara will take on an even greater role for his home nation of Slovakia. Chara will carry the Slovakian flag during the Olympic opening ceremony, which is set to take place Friday, Feb. 7, in Sochi. It’s a huge honor for the veteran defenseman, but it...

Bruins’ Difficulties In Playing Catch-Up Hockey Made Worse By Slumping Special Teams

BOSTON — The Bruins are a team that is built to get a lead and protect that lead. They’re built to be able to get out in front and using a defensive-minded style of play, suck the life out of their opponent on the way to victory. That works real well when they actually have that lead. When they’re playing from behind, however, it’s a totally different story. That’s been...

Bruins Show Improvement In Recently Struggling Areas On Way To Win Over Stars

The Boston Bruins have made it a point to say that attention to detail and keeping things simple would help them get out of the funk they’re in right now. That was certainly the case Thursday night. The Bruins got back to their winning ways with a 4-2 win over the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center. The win not only helps the B’s bounce back after a loss to Toronto on Tuesday...

Reilly Smith, Loui Eriksson Enjoying Life As Bruins, But Look Forward to Return to Dallas

WILMINGTON, Mass. — Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin‘s return to Boston was a bona fide event, which is no small feat in such a rabid sports city like Boston. When the Bruins visit Dallas on Thursday, though, the return of Loui Eriksson and Reilly Smith will likely go largely unnoticed by the greater Dallas-Fort Worth Area. That’s not a ground-breaking prediction, though....

Tyler Seguin Trade Analysis: Bruins, Stars Both Benefit From Blockbuster Deal

The Boston Bruins could say they’ve won the Tyler Seguin trade, but so could the Dallas Stars. And it’s OK for that to be the case. The Bruins’ Thursday night visit to Dallas will mark the first time that Seguin plays host to his old team. It also will be the first game back in Big D for Loui Eriksson and Reilly Smith, who were part of the July 4 blockbuster trade that shook...

Ty Anderson: Inconsistent Bruins dig hole too deep vs. Leafs

If the Boston Bruins lived in a world without second periods, they’d be unstoppable. Granted, their play in the middle frame throughout this season has told us that they don’t believe in them, but unfortunately for Boston, they do. And it was once again a second period no-show that lead to their downfall as the Toronto Maple Leafs escaped the TD Garden with two points...

Bruins shoot down Stars 4-2

Mired in their annual mid-season slump, the Boston Bruins came into Dallas on Thursday night looking to improve on - well - everything."It's gut-check time right now," Bruins' forward Reilly Smith said before the game, "and the points are huge."Since winning their first two games of the new year, Boston had lost three of four coming into American Airlines...

Lucic scored on a power play at 15:46 of the third period, when he tipped a shot over Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen for a 3-1 lead. Lucic passed from the right corner to David Krejci, whose...
