Welcome to Julylights, a month long series taking the top plays of the '11-'12 season and giving them to you one a day, every day of the month of July. When going into the shootout, different players have different strategies. Some players come down wide and cross over the crease, while others take a head on approach. Some players come in with speed, whil others come in slow and try to out-wait the goalie.Mikkel Boedker, of the Phoenix Coyotes, definitely took the fast approach when he was put on the ice with a chance to beat the Vancouver Canucks.  (Video after the jump)"Winner!"Just a great move by Boedker. To pull that off while going that fast is a hard thing to do. Sure it was a little choppy, but it got the job done, and it made Cory Schneider look just as choppy. It's a good thing Boedker has a steady home to grow in Phoeni.... Oh wait.

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Phoenix Coyotes forward Brett MacLean's condition is improving less than a week after he suffered a cardiac emergency during a pickup hockey game in Canada. Rangers Still Pursuing Shane Doan

Last week I reported that GM Glen Sather and the New York Rangers had sincere interest in Phoenix Coyotes captain and current unrestricted free agent Shane Doan. Regardless if the interest was mutual between the two parties, Doan, at the time, would not make a decision on whether or not he will be talking to teams other than the Coyotes about signing a contract that will last him...

Red Wings morning report: on courting Doan, the Semin rumor and prospect talk

The Red Wings and almost a dozen other NHL teams will begin pursuing a prototypical power forward today, someone who can add size, grit and especially goal-scoring acumen to the equation…And his name is Shane Doan. The Free Press’s Helene St. James isn’t sure whether Doan is really willing to leave Phoenix, despite his declaration that the potential ballot initiative designed...

The Latest From Glendale

from Mike Sunnucks of the Phoenix Business Journal at the Sporting News, Efforts to get a referendum to Glendale voters on the city’s Phoenix Coyotes deal could be faltering. Organizers of the anti-Coyotes referendum may not have enough signatures to get on the ballot, and they could face a big legal fight with the city of Glendale over how many signatures are needed and when...

Count(ing) on Doan

Only 2-3 teams would warrant serious interest on Doan’s part, Bross said. Location, management/players and Cup chances are all factors.— Sarah McLellan (@azc_mclellan) July 9, 2012 Based on tweets from @pgshelly, @reallisa and @HeleneStJames, those three teams could be Pittsburgh, LA and Detroit.— Sarah McLellan (@azc_mclellan) July 9, 2012 According to Shane Doan’s agent...

Red Wings overnight report: talking about Doan, Nash, Mike McKee and Bryan Rufenach Day

Somewhere between posting the news about the Winter Classic alumni game press conference on Wednesday and sharing the Free Press’s Helene St. James’ news about the Red Wings’ overtures to Shane Doan, I kinda got sidetracked and missed Ken Holland’s water-pouring over the Doan rumors due to content-producing reasons. As someone who’s generally all but plugged into their...

Red Wings don’t mind playing the waiting game with Doan

MLive’s Phillip Zaroo spoke to Red Wings GM Ken Holland about a certain Shane Doan and the fact that, well, his agent claims that Doan’s interested in playing for every team in the frickin’ universe, and that his “deadline” for actually considering free agent offers keeps on getting pushed back and pushed back. Given the silly level of sales pitching going on, the Wings...
