The Detroit Red Wings suffered another setback Saturday night, 2-1 in a shootout against the Vancouver Canucks. But forward Justin Abdelkader scored his own personal victory, taking down Vancouver’s Keith Ballard with a vicious right hook during a second period fight. The Wings had been applying heavy pressure in the Canucks’ zone prior to the incident — Ballard was also called for interference on the play, then he and Abdelkader dropped the gloves. Mats Sundin is the Swedish-Born Player With the Most Career NHL Goals

Mats Sundin retired from the NHL in 2009, but he still has the most career NHL goals out of any player with 564. Sundin was initially drafted first overall in the 1989 NHL entry draft and played his first four seasons in the NHL with the Quebec Nordiques. The Swedish-born player played most of his career with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and excluding his rookie season, the shortened lockout...

Canucks beat Wings, clinch playoffs

Maxim Lapierre scored in the shootout, Cory Schneider made 33 saves through overtime and the Vancouver Canucks clinched a playoff berth with a 2-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night. Schneider stopped all three attempts in the shootout for the Canucks, who won their seventh straight at home and prevented the Red Wings from breaking the playoff threshold. Vancouver...

Wings' playoff hopes rest on Howard

The Detroit Red Wings' playoff hopes begin and end with goaltender Jimmy Howard. It would be nice if one of Detroits skilled forwards suddenly regained his goal-scoring touch, which would take some of the burden off of Howard. But realistically, which forward seems ready to step up and be a goal-scoring machine? Except for Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg, there isnt another...

Could Canucks use outdoor game for jersey change?

Outdoor Wear Canucks Nation knows full well that their team has had more costume changes over the years than Justin Timberlake as host of Saturday Night Live, but could there be one final changing of the guard? We’re talking something permanent; something that will last 100 years like the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs world-wide recognized brands. It may not be a popular...

Red Wings GM Ken Holland on ‘After Hours’

From We All Bleed Red on YouTube, Red Wings GM Ken Holland spoke to the CBC's Scott Oake and Craig Simpson on After Hours, and the interview's worth watching:

For Coyotes, it's do or die in Detroit

Had things gone slightly better last week, tonights game in Detroit could have had huge playoff implications for the Coyotes. But even though the odds of a postseason berth have been severely diminished, there is still a ray of playoff hope left for the Coyotes, and if they wants to keep that faint hope alive, they must find a way to win against the Red Wings. Detroit enters the...

Pressure On The Wings

Cam Cole of the Vancouver Sun with an article regarding the pressure the Wings are feeling... “Mike,” a reporter ventured, when the Wings practised Friday at Rogers Arena in preparation for Saturday’s game against the Vancouver Canucks, “your team has gone 20 seasons without missing the playoffs ...” “21,” Babcock corrected him. But who’s counting, right...

Due to a nasty bug I've been out of the loop for a couple of days, and during that time, the Grand Rapids Griffins learned who they'll be playing in the first round of the AHL playoffs. Here’s the schedule for that matchup: Game 1 – Fri., Apr. 26 – Grand Rapids at...

Farewell Red Wings, the team we loved to hate

Thursday April 25th will mark the end of a an era for the Nashville Predators. Next season's realignment will move the Detroit Red Wings to an inferior "Conference II" in the Eastern time zones where they will rekindle some of their own old rivalries. Us Pred fans though will lose the biggest rival this franchise has ever seen. I would like to take some time to say...

Red Wings Pull Up 1 of 2 Possible Points

The Red Wings scrum up a big point, but also drop another, as they drop the game 2-1 to the Canucks in a shootout. Shot blocking and defensive pressure were the stories of this game. Each team had very few shots on goal through each period. The scoring wasn’t opened till 12:15 of [...]

Mark Spizzirri: GAMEDAY: 'Yotes vs. Red Wings; destiny in their hands

Make sure to follow Mark on Twitter! Following a disappointing "mini" road-trip through Western Canada where the Detroit Red Wings were only able to garner one out of a possible four points, they return to the Joe Louis Arena to take "control of their own destiny" in commencing their final week of the regular season hosting the Phoenix Coyotes (7:30 PM ET...
