Justin Schultz is NHL readyIt appears the Edmonton Oilers struck it rich playing the lottery yet again, when Justin Schultz could not come to contract terms with the Anaheim Ducks back in May 2012.Schultz officially "de-registered" from the University of Wisconsin triggering a process that made him an unrestricted free agent (UFA). According to league rules, from the time Anaheim was given notice of the de-registration from school, they had a 30-day exclusive window to try to sign him or trade him. Anaheim was ultimately unable to sign him. On June 30, 2012, Schultz agreed to a two year entry-level contract with the Edmonton Oilers.Fast - forward to today, due to the NHL lockout, Justin Schultz is playing on a stacked Oklahoma City Barons roster featuring the likes of: Jordan Eberle, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Magnus Paajarvi, and Taylor Hall. The shocking part of all this is, Justin Schultz has looked right at home playing with these NHL young guns. In fact, Schultz currently leads the entire American Hockey League in scoring with 23 points through 16 games as a defenseman. This proves to me Justin Schultz is indeed NHL ready. Schultz is looking like he could indeed be that franchise defenseman, the Edmonton Oilers were desperately looking for. It may be unrealistic to suggest Schultz could put up the above numbers at the NHL level. However, let's not forget Justin Schultz wants to be an Edmonton Oiler and his recent play suggests his potential of becoming an NHL superstar is massive. the Edmonton Oilers organization is set for the next decade... Justin Schultz is NHL ready!
