Kevin Weekes Sends Up Bat Signal, Devils Coaching Decision Coming?
Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

Kevin Weekes is a man who wears many hats. The former NHL goaltender is now an analyst for ESPN, he just launched his very own management company, Speekes.co, plus does work for plenty of other hockey-related outlets. However, a hobby of his — which he often participates in — is breaking insider NHL information. You may have been sleeping, but late on Thursday evening, Weekes sent out a cryptic New Jersey Devils-related tweet, posting a picture of the Prudential Center and captioning it with the eyes emoji.

Certainly, this will not spark any speculation.

Two minutes before the tweet (post? What are we calling it these days?), Weekes also tweeted/posted a picture of the city of Toronto with the same eyes emoji caption.

What’s the common denominator here?

It’s obvious. Both New Jersey and the Toronto Maple Leafs are searching for a new head coach. While we can’t exactly be sure that’s the cryptic message Weekes was trying to send, it’s certainly a good bet that the ESPN analyst is alluding to a coaching decision for both organizations is on the brink.

Although he is a candidate for both the Devils and Maple Leafs, all signs point to Toronto securing Craig Berube as their next bench boss.

As for the Devils, it was reported by Elliotte Friedman on Wednesday that the timeline has become unclear. Yet, Berube remained a candidate, although it appears more likely one of Sheldon Keefe or Jay Woodcroft land in New Jersey. Todd McLellan has an outside chance for both of the positions.

Funny enough, Pierre LeBrun reported on May 7th that Devils General Manager Tom Fitzgerald would like to have a new coach hired within 7-10 days. Well, today, Friday, May 17th, is day 10.

Hold onto your hats, folks. We just might have news on the horizon.
