The Bruins are gearing up to play their second road game of the season. They are coming off a 4-2 win versus the Islanders which was sloppier then it should have been. The Carolina Hurricanes are coming off of a 3-1 victory over the new "tough" Buffalo Sabres. The Hurricanes are 2-2 in four games played losing to the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lighting while beating the Sabres twice. The Carolina Hurricanes re-vamped their offense in the off season trading Center Brandon Sutter, a prospect defense man, and a first round pick to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Jordan Staal; Eric Staal's brother. The Hurricanes also signed forward Alexander Semin to a one year 7 million dollar deal. The Hurricanes then also have young gun Jeff Skinner and more young talent on their roster. Perhaps the biggest contributor to the Hurricanes having a successful season is Goalie Cam Ward. So far this year Ward has been less then stellar with a 4.71 goals against average and a 1-2 record. Canes hurt by special teams vs. Bruins

RALEIGH, NC -- If the Carolina Hurricanes are going to establish themselves as a contender to make a push in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, they better address their special teams issues, and fast. On Monday night at PNC Arena, the Canes had an opportunity to see what a Cup-holding penalty kill looks like in the form of the visiting Boston Bruins, and it was the difference in Boston...

Nathan Horton Punks Tim Gleason & Scores On Cam Ward

Nathan Horton buried this beauty in the closing minutes of the second period of Monday’s Bruins-Hurricanes game in Raleigh. The ‘Canes allowed Horton to walk into the zone before he dangled Tim Gleason with a nifty toe drag before beating Cam Ward top shelf and it was one of the prettier goals we’ve seen in this young Bruins season. It’s great to see Horton back, healthy...

Bruins Facing Dual Challenges of Feisty Devils Team, First Scheduling Speed Bump of Season (Video)

After coming off an emotional win against the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday night, the Bruins will have to rally once again on Tuesday against the Devils. Playing in their first back-to-back of the year, the Bruins will be tested in a way that they haven’t yet on the season, while the Devils should be a bit more rested for the game. Still, the B’s have been on a roll, and they’ll...

A Second Look At Jeff Skinner Being A Slew-Footing Douchebag

Last night, Patrice Bergeron and Jeff Skinner got into an altercation but you'd never know it if it weren't for Jack Edwards because NESN was to busy watching Tyler Seguin score an empty net, power play goal. The only thing we saw the end the result - Bergeron and Skinner being pulled away from each other by the referees. Everyone wondered what Skinner did to get Bergeron...

Thoughts from the first four games

One week of the 2013 NHL season is officially in the books and it's already been quite a roller coaster ride for the Carolina Hurricanes. Things started off about as bad as they could have in the first two games, losing two games that weren't even close but the team responded by winning both games in a back-to-back series against the Buffalo Sabres and the team now sits at...

Game 5 Preview: Bruins at Hurricanes

Boston Bruins at Carolina Hurricanes PNC Arena, 7 p.m. TV: FS-Carolinas, NESN, NHL Network Spirits in Raleigh are much higher than they were a week ago, as the Hurricanes come into tonight winning their last two games and look to continue their streak tonight when they take on the Boston Bruins. The Hurricanes managed to sweep the season series with Boston last season and...

Checkers fall out of first place

For a good chunk of the season, the Charlotte Checkers had been sitting comfortably in first place in the AHL's Western Conference but their run at the top has come to an end as the top spot is now secured by the Texas Stars, who lead the Checkers by one point. This isn't due to a slump by the Checkers, though. They've won seven of their last 10 games and are still playing...

Bad third period dooms Carolina, drop 5-3 decision to Bruins

Many people believed that tonight's game against the Boston Bruins would be a good test for this Carolina team that appears to be on the upswing but still has plenty of kinks to work out before they can be called a contender. The Hurricanes gave the Bruins a good run for their money for the most part in this game but ultimately came up short as the same bad habits occurred yet...

Game 5 Scoring Chances: Bruins at Hurricanes

Last night's 5-3 loss to the Boston Bruins was easily the most frustrating loss for the Hurricanes in this young season. The team got off to a poor start and fell in a 2-0 hole but managed to battle back and had the Bruins right where they wanted them at the second intermission. Unfortunately, they could not capitalize on this opportunity and came out flat for the third period...

Mambo #5: Boston Bruins at Carolina Hurricanes

Oh those Carolina Hurricanes. With the Jordan Staal trade at the draft and then signing Alexander Semin to that huge one year deal (worth $7M, are you for real?) on top of Skinner and Eric Staal, I thought they'd be good. Apparently I'm wrong because they aren't. They're an average, middle of the pack type of hockey team that hasn't found their flow yet. Either...
