The Kings have come to terms with a pair of defensemen in Andrew Bodnarchuk and Colin Miller. Bodnarchuk 25 signed for two years after posting a career-high 20 AHL points a season ago while Miller 20 signed a three-year entry level contract that will allow him to continue to develop in Los Angeles’ minor league system after the conclusion of his eligibility with the OHL’s Soo Greyhounds. A fifth round pick by Boston in 2006 Bodnarchuk was named the Providence Bruins’ “Best Defenseman” in 2010 and has increased his point total in every professional season since his final junior hockey season of 2007-08 when he captained a Halifax Mooseheads team that also included Brad Marchand and Jakub Voracek. At 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds he’s a puck moving defenseman with power play experience and five games of NHL experience with Boston who is likely to start the season in Manchester. Should Los Angeles deal with injuries or inconsistency on the back end his name could potentially arise as a depth option. He’ll face the tall task of attempting to earn a spot on the team out of training camp. After inviting him to training camp the previous year Los Angeles selected Colin Miller in the fifth round of the 2012 draft and watched him blossom as Sault Ste. Marie’s captain and the eventual winner of the Mickey Renaud Captain’s Trophy. A third team OHL All-Star Miller nearly doubled the point total from his previous season with a 20-goal 55-point overage campaign and averaged better than a point per game in the regular season and the playoffs.
