The Los Angeles Kings kept their perfect record in shootouts by beating the Edmonton Oilers 2 to 1. Anze Kopitar scored the game winning shootout goal as the Kings are 4 and 0 in shootouts. LA went 3 and 1 on this 4 game home stand and got better with every game. The Kings rode the momentum from a 7 goal outburst versus the Dallas Stars and just dominated the Oilers all night. On the season the Kings are 4 and 2 at home and 8 and 4 overall. Being dominant at home is important in this deep Western Conference. Mike Richards and Matt Frattin (Photo credit: AP/Alex Gallardo) Los Angeles currently sits in 4th in the Pacific Division and 6th overall in the West. The Kings are playing good hockey, but so are teams like the Colorado Avalanche, San Jose Sharks and crosstown rival Anaheim Ducks. The Kings did many things well in the game versus the Oilers, but just could not get the puck into the net more than once. LA outshot Edmonton 48 to 18 and obviously had the puck most of the time. Oilers goaltender Richard Bachman was on the top of his game as he stopped 47 of 48 shots. Every Kings player keeps getting better and better and they are led by their fabulous centers Mike Richards and Anze Kopitar. Richards scored for the 2nd consecutive game and Kopitar scored the game winning shootout goal. Jonathan Quick also continued his great play by stopping 17 of 18 shots. The Los Angeles Kings will have to lift their game to another level as 4 of their next 5 games are against teams with winning records and one of them being against the leader of the Pacific Division, the San Jose Sharks. The keys for this Kings team is simple, keep the giveaways down, control more of the possession and get lots of shots on goal. More than half of the Kings roster has scored a goal this season with Jeff Carter leading the way with 5 goals. The Kings are one of the best teams down the middle with centers Mike Richards and Anze Kopitar and magnificent goaltender Jonathan Quick. If LA can continue to hold teams to only 1 or 2 goals a game they will be winning most nights with the offensive firepower they have. The Kings will travel to Phoenix to face the Coyotes and then come back home for another 4 game home stand.
