Anze Kopitar scored twice in a four-goal, first-period blitz as the Los Angeles Kings embarrassed the Blues from the opening faceoff, whipping St. Louis 5-2 Monday night for their fifth straight road win this postseason. Brad Richards and Jeff Carter had a goal apiece and Dustin Penner and Dustin Brown each had a pair of assists in a period that was one goal shy of the franchise playoff record of five in 1993 against Vancouver. Brown assisted on Kopitar's short-handed goal and has a hand in all four of the Kings' short-handed goals in the playoffs, two goals and two assists. Andy McDonald scored 18 seconds into the second for St. Louis but Justin Williams squashed thoughts of a comeback when he scored on the Kings' first shot of the period, then they sat on that cushion, taking five shots the last two periods. Matt D'Agostini scored in the third for St. Louis, which was 0 for 9 on the power play Kopitar has three goals and three assists in the playoffs, and has ...

Kings grind out a win in opener

A few hours before Game 1 of the second-round playoff series, St. Louis Ken Hitchcock said those expecting a low-scoring game between the Kings and Blues would be "shocked and surprised." No, not really. In a game that was every bit as physical and tight-checking as expected, the two teams that allowed the fewest goals in the regular season went down to the wire, and...

Blues upset with King's hit on Pietrangelo

The Blues dropped Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals 3-1 to Los Angeles Saturday night and they might have lost defenseman Alex Pietrangelo. Blues-Kings Preview

David Backes was grateful the St. Louis Blues were out of their homes and comfort zones Wednesday, practicing in an opponent's practice rink just a few slap shots from the Pacific Ocean. Still reeling from the shock of two home playoff losses, the St. Louis captain realizes that a strong road trip is the only way to save his team's season. ''It's good to get...

The action resulted...

The Good Guys Win If Pietrangelo Plays Tonight

from Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, * If Blues defenseman Alex Pietrangelo can play in Game 2, which now seems possible, it will be a terrific triumph for the Blues, and an uplifting development in this series. If Petro can play, the Kings would have failed in the attempt to rub him out. And the Blues will have regained the services of their best all-around player...
