The Kings suffered a major blow Tuesday when Coach Darryl Sutter ruled out their leading playoff scorer, Mike Richards, for tonight's Game 3 against the Chicago Blackhawks. Sutter is rarely open about injuries but disclosed the decision after the morning skate at Staples Center. Richards is suspected to have suffered a concussion after taking a hard hit in the last two minutes of Game 1 from Dave Bolland. And he has a concussion history, dating back to his days as a member of the Philadelphia Flyers. Richards took pregame warmups but was a last-minute scratch before Game 2 on Sunday in Chicago. Chicago leads the Kings in the Western Conference finals, 2-0. "He's done a little bit every day, but it's the same, no progress ... if it's just about Mike Richards making the decision, Mike Richards is playing tonight," Sutter said. "You've got guys that don't want to play and you've got guys that do want to play. Mike Richards is a guy that wants to play." Richards is the Kings' leading scorer in the playoffs; he has two goals and 10 points in 14 games. In Chicago, Sutter put Jeff Carter back at center on a line with Dustin Penner and rookie Tyler Toffoli. "Fortunately Jeff Carter can play center," Sutter said. "Otherwise, we'd be in a real spot."
