via Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger, Devils winger Ilya Kovalchuk will miss Game 2 of the team’s second-round playoff series with the Philadelphia Flyers because of a lower body injury, general manager Lou Lamoriello confirmed. Kovalchuk suffered what is believed to be a leg muscle injury, or possibly a groin-related problem, and is not with the team. He was examined by a doctor Monday. “We have left Ilya Kovalchuk back in New Jersey,” Lamoriello said today. “He will not be in the lineup tonight because of a lower body injury. That’s all we will say and he’ll be day to day. There will be no further comments on Ilya’s situation.” Forward Tim Sestito has joined the team but coach Pete DeBoer did not specify if he would play in Game 2 Tuesday night at the Wells Fargo Center.

Rob Simpson: Kovalchuk's Shift Diary from Game-1 Loss

Given his propensity to imitate Espo and others at times, with 2+ minute shifts, and to sometimes float, I thought it interesting to isolate the play of New Jersey gazzillionaire forward Ilya Kovalchuk with a shift diary from Game-1 on Sunday in Philly. Keep in mind, it's believed Kovy is suffering from something; groin, leg, lower body, call it what you will. If that is...

Game 2: Devils Don't Quit - Series Tied 1-1

"Tonight I'm planking but on Thursday it's all about Tebowing!!"   You couldn’t escape the fact that Ilya Kovalchuk wasn’t in the lineup last night, mainly because Pierre Maguire and Kenny Albert weren’t going to let us forget. Guess what, it didn’t matter. The Devils worked hard all night and found a way to get the job done. They kept their frustration...

WTF! Devils Score 4 Goals in the 3rd Period

That’s all the New Jersey Devils needed Tuesday night, as they scored four third-period goals to beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-1 and even the Eastern Conference semifinals at 1-1. The Devils did it without the services of leading scorer Ilya Kovalchuk, who did not even travel to Philadelphia for Game 2 because of a lower-body injury, according to Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello...

Game 3: Devils Come Home - Series Tied 1-1

There was a lot of talk about Kovalchuk missing Game 2 both before and during the game on Tuesday. By the end of the game all that seemed to matter was that the Devils went into Philly, stayed focused and came away with a 4 goal 3rd period and knocked off the Flyers 4-1 which evened the series at 1 game a piece as this series shifts to the Prudential Center for games 3...

Minus a Devilish foe, the Flyers look to maintain status quo

The big news surfacing out of Philadelphia this morning reverberated through the hockey-sphere quicker than a piece of glass can hit the floor of a New York Knicks visiting locker room: Ilya Kovalchuk will miss Game 2 due to a lower body injury sustained in the first round. This vicarious bit of news surely bodes well for a Flyers team already riding high with a 1-0 lead that came...

Todd Cordell: Devils hot start wasn't enough as Briere leads the Flyers to an OT victory

Yesterday afternoon the New Jersey Devils took on the Philadelphia Flyers at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, but the Devils failed to accomplish what they did in the first round, and that's winning Game 1. Devils won't be a pushover to Flyers in Round 2

After Philadelphia rolled over Pittsburgh in the opening round of the playoffs, there was a perception that the Flyers would be the team to beat in the Eastern Conference. Getting by New Jersey in the second round seemingly was a given after the No. 6 seed Devils needed seven games - and two overtimes in the last contest - to knock off Florida. Well, it's time to revise that...
