The Devils traded for Ilya Kovalchuk at the 2010 trade deadline, and after signing him to a 15 year, $100 million deal the following summer, committed to Kovalchuk as the future of the organization. To this point, Kovalchuk hasn't disappointed. Kovalchuk put up 27 points in 27 games for the Devils after coming over from the Atlanta Thrashers before adding six points in five playoff games. Last season's disappointing season in Jersey didn't stop Kovalchuk from posting his eighth straight 30-goal season. Last night, Kovalchuk scored his 31st of the year, and the 400th of his career, the difference-maker in a 1-0 win over the Ottawa Senators. Kovalchuk's powerplay tally was the lone blemish in an impressive night in a 33-save effort for Ben Bishop. Johan Hedberg was just a bit better, stopping 34 shots for his fourth shutout of the season. Kovalchuk's 400 goals in 771 gmes is the third fastest among active players, behind only Teemu Selanne and...

Fans at the Rangers-Devils game on Monday night got their money's worth exactly one half of a second into the contest. After the puck dropped between the Rangers and Devils the other night, the gloves soon followed. Stu Bickel, Mike Rupp and Brandon Prust went toe-to-toe against Cam Janssen, Ryan Carter and Eric Boulton. The New Jersey Devils host a struggling team in the Toronto Maple Leafs tomorrow in essentially a must win game if they still want to have a shot at moving up a spot or two in the Eastern Conference standings. Here are some notes on that, Travis Zajac's potential return and more. - As everyone knows there are not many, if any, teams playing worse hockey than the Toronto Maple...

Todd Cordell: Moose is on the loose: Johan Hedberg and the Devils shutout the Senators

Last night the New Jersey Devils got back in the win column with a shutout victory over the Ottawa Senators. Here are some notes on the game, and other Devils notes. - First off, I'd like to congratulate Ilya Kovalchuk for scoring his 400th career goal last night. Rangers Clinch Playoff Spot With 4-2 Win Over the Devils

While the first three seconds of the hockey game between the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils provided a lot of theatrics, it all ended up meaning very little for the rest of the game as the Rangers went onto to clinch a playoff spot by beating the Devils by a score of 4-2. For the first since the 2005-06 season, the Blueshirts managed to clinch a playoff spot with a few weeks...

Former Thrashers Blank Sens: Kovy Scores #400

Hoping to rebound after a very disappointing showcasing of hockey in last nights defeat to the Hudson River rivals, New Jersey would conclude a back-to-back set of games with a visit to Canada's capital to play the Ottawa Senators. This game in my eyes, is even more of a crucial game than last night's. I believe last night was a statement game, just to put the Rangers and...
