With just 19 seconds left in the second period and the game scoreless, Chris Kreider found himself on the doorstep staring at a puck sliding through the crease and Craig Anderson out of position, but he just missing banging it home into the empty net for his first NHL goal...

Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record has Kreider's reaction to his missed opportunity...

"I'm still thinking about it, I just missed it. I was so excited I just missed it."

...i would have jumped through the roof if Kreider scored. Not a big deal because the Rangers won the game, but that's going to bother him for a little while.

...once he got comfortable and into the flow of the game you can see he can play at this level.

...great move by Torts switching him out in the third period. No need to put him in an even more difficult situation than he was already in.

Kreider added this on getting a chance to play...

"My role was made clear. They didn't expect me to make all-world plays. Obviously, it's a great opportunity, I didn't think coming in I'd be in that situation.

"I knew last night that I was playing," Kreider noted. "I didn't put too much thought into it or overthink it. I was just excited to get the opportunity."

Tortorella on Kreider's NHL debut (via NHL.com)...

"I didn't mind him in the first period. It's a hell of a spot we're putting the kid in. Toward the end when we had the lead, I felt I'd leave him alone and have him watch a little bit and gain his experience that way. He certainly showed he can skate in the League. There's things he needs to work on, but he's in a hell of a spot. I'm really happy with the way he played."
