Rangers Assistant GM Jim Schoenfeld discusses Chris Kreider's skill set as well as things he needs to work on with Craig Custance at ESPN Insider... "I think he has the makings of a star, I really do," Schoenfeld said. "His strength, his tremendous skating, his speed and power -- that quick release with the shot ... the ethic young players have to develop is not so much the physical part of the game, it's the mental part regarding consistency. The difference between the very good players and the great players is the great players play at a high level on a more consistent basis." Schoenfeld says that should be easy considering Kreider's willingness to learn... "I think he really wants to do well. I think he wants to be a high-end player. He wants to be a difference-maker. We've been given every indication that he wants to be better and he wants to continually grow. We're confident he's going to accept instruction, learn and gain experience." ...i touch on this a lot on the blog, but sometimes I'm more impressed with the character of Kreider than his skill level. I have no doubt he wants to get better and is no where near satisfied with where his game is right now. The kid's ego never gets in the way. ...the one concern I do have with Kreider is that he may be putting too much pressure on himself playing for the Whale (zero goals in three games). I hope he doesn't feel he needs to carry the team. Taking on too much responsibility could begin to negatively affect his game. He just needs to relax and be the player he's been his entire life.
