On Friday the Toronto Maple Leafs announced that they have traded minor league players Alex Berry and Stefano Gilati to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for defenseman Matt Lashoff.
Lashoff is coming off a decent year with the Lightning’s AHL affiliate, Norfolk, playing in 68 games, scoring eight goals and adding 16 assists along with 105 penalty minutes. He ended up playing five games with the Lightning last year and was held scoreless during that time.
Lashoff adds to the Leafs depth on defence, and being 23 years old and a former first round pick, there’s still some potential possibly in him for later on.
In 63 career NHL games with between the Lightning and Boston Bruins, he has one goal and 15 assists. Lashoff was drafted by the Boston Bruins with their first pick, 22nd overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
