And then there was one. With the Nazem Kadri deal behind him Toronto Maple Leafs GM Dave Nonis must turn his attention to restricted free agent Cody Franson. The unsigned Franson who did not attend the opening of training camp Wednesday has adjusted his negotiating tactic with the Leafs. According to Hockey Central insider John Shannon the Leafs have offered the defenceman a two-year deal. Although Franson originally requested a longer four-year deal Franson has switched his tactic. He now wants another one-year deal. “I’d like to get something done but that’s what I pay my agent for — to make sure that I don’t have to deal too much with the business side of things” Franson told Hockey Central insider Chris Johnston last week. “The business side of the game is sometimes the most difficult.” The 26-year-old Franson is coming off a one-year deal that paid him $1.2 million (prorated) for the shortened 2012-13 campaign. The Surrey B.C. native scored four goals and added 25 assists for 29 points and only committed eight minutes in penalties in 45 games for the Leafs last season his best in the NHL. Franson registered another six points in the Leafs’ seven-game playoff series loss to the Boston Bruins.
