Toronto Maple Leafs forward Clarke MacArthur was suspended for the rest of preseason and two regular-season games on Saturday for hitting Detroit's Justin Abdelkader in the head. This was the ninth suspension by new NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan during the preseason. Those bans total 31 regular-season games and close to $700,000 in lost salary. MacArthur will de docked $35,135 and is eligible to return to Toronto's lineup Oct. 15 against Calgary. His hit came late in the third period Friday of Toronto's 4-3 overtime road victory against the Red Wings. No penalty was assessed.
  • Hey Shanny..I get you're the new sheriff in town and you're throwing you weight around by I have to ask you..Justin Abdelkader sold this hit as he clearly dived so I have to ask you Shanny.

If you're going to punish those you believe are throwing head shots, can you not also punish those who fake the damage from head shots and exploit the game by becoming drama queens on the ice?

Can you not punish them so that the game has a chance to be played on an even keel because otherwise, if you let the divers and actresses swan dive and fake the head shot injuries, then you just turn the game into a big **** show and God only knows it's not far from that already
  • Hey more thing...Ovechkin is synonymous with questionable hits...are you going to throw his sorry self into suspension or are you going to continue to do the cowardly thing like all those before you and let him maim and injure his opponents?
  • Since my first commented was not posted I'll try one more time. Hey Shanny, we all get your the new sheriff in town but I have to ask you... should divers and fakers like Abdelkader not be subject to fines and suspensions for faking injuries and head shots..I mean, what if all 30 teams like Detroit decided to swan dive and fake death on the ice just to draw a penalty or suspension? Does this not create a huge problem??
