The Detroit Red Wings have recalled Riley Sheahan from their American Hockey League affiliate.
The move was made Saturday, a day before Detroit hosts the St. Louis Blues.
Detroit drafted Sheahan in the first round of the 2010 NHL draft and he played in one game for the Red Wings last year. He had 35 points in 67 games this season for the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Amongst this morning/early afternoon's Red Wings-related news:
The Wings had recalled Riley Sheahan on an "emergency" basis as the team feared that Henrik Zetterberg (groin) might not be able to play during Sunday's 1-0 loss to St. Louis, so the press release the Wings sent out to their email list on Monday offered no surprise:
RED WINGS REASSIGN RILEY SHEAHAN...
I'm sticking with Fox Sports Detroit's Ken Daniels on this one. The reason I lost my temper after the Wings-Blues game, and the reasons that Wings fans have been so frustrated while watching their favorite team continue to consistently drop "must-win games" down the stretch, all boil down to 55.
During an 82-game season, teams tend to earn playoff spots if they...
I've already received some Tweets and will certainly receive some emails regarding the mysterious email the Red Wings sent their fans on Saturday night, stating that they will make an "announcement" at 10:30 AM EDT today (and that the announcement will be streamed on DetroitRedWings.com and re-shown in snippets during today's matinee between the Wings and Blues...
It's called scoreboard watching or in my case, actually watching the games.
Many of you know I am a Red Wings fan but don't touch on it much in the KK Hockey section since that area is for all things hockey.
But I am experiencing something quite different than in years past and that is being worried about the Wings making the playoffs.
To make this short, I am now in...
from Ansar Khan of Mlive,
“I thought Mule was fantastic in the middle, dominated the faceoff circle, really played well, went head-to-head against (Matt) Duchene all night long and was very good,'' Babcock said.
Babcock paired Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg together in an effort to energize the team following Thursday's 4-2 loss at Phoenix. He had Franzen...
I would yell and scream at the Red Wings for engaging in awfully stupid lateral passing up the ass, shooting an unbelievable number of single, un-screened shots on Brian Elliott (who had a ridiculously easy night thanks to no butts in front, no screens and no rebound attempts from the Wings, never mind sustained pressure by the Wings) and essentially playing like they didn't...
The Red Wings drop yet another crucial game 1-0 to the St. Louis Blues, who drop them to 8th in the West. This playoff-intensity game was a defensive battle from the get-go, though not as boring as some we’ve seen this season. Both teams grinded away at one another, clearing pucks away from [...]

DETROIT (AP) -- Brian Elliott made 28 saves for his 19th career shutout and Chris Porter scored the game's only goal in the St. Louis Blues' 1-0 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday.
Porter scored off a goalmouth scramble with 3:32 remaining in the second period with this second goal of the season. Elliott got his first shutout of the season to help St. Louis move into...
The Red Wings' game against the St. Louis Blues today (12:30 PM EDT, NBC Sports/NHL Network Canada/97.1 FM, and today the Wings are partnering with the Make-A-Wish Foundation at the Joe today) makes for "good TV" and "easy storytelling") for those without a rooting interest, for several reasons:
After today's Winter Classic presser, a pair of teams...
