via RIANOVOSTI, Locked-out NHL stars coming to play in the Russia-based KHL should learn the league's rules rather than complaining about referees, the head of the KHL refereeing department told R-Sport on Tuesday. The NHL declared a lockout last month when pay talks between owners and players foundered, causing players such as last season’s MVP Evgeni Malkin and big-scoring forward Alex Ovechkin to come to the KHL. Both have since found themselves disagreeing with referees over on-ice incidents. “In every country there are certain nuances, however the player’s obligation is to know the rules,” referee supervisor Alexander Polyakov said. “You can find the KHL rules on the league website, by the way, so a player who’s come to play in the KHL should go and read them.” Some players complaining about referees were just sore losers, Polyakov suggested. “No-one likes to lose, but if the game isn’t going your way either, then these types of comments emerge,” he said, add...

Evgeni Malkin puts KHL defender to shame

Evgeni Malkin is back to work in Russia, embarrassing defenders left and right. He’s currently playing in his home country of Russia for the KHL’s Metallurg Magnitogorsk, who won their game on Monday 3-0 over Amur Khabarovsk (it’s a team, not a person). Malkin added his ninth point in nine games today with a stupid sick goal, not unlike what we’ve seen him do many times before...

Evgeni Malkin's Sick Stickwork Leads to Nifty Backhanded Goal During KHL Game (Video)

Evgeni Malkin is doing typical Evgeni Malkin things over in Russia. Malkin's KHL team, Metallurg Magnitogorsk, won its game against Amur Khabarovsk 3-0 on Monday, but it was the Penguins forward who drew oohs and aahs from the crowd. The reigning Hart Trophy winner scored an impressive backhanded goal in the third period after deking around a helpless defender. The defenseman...

Yea so Evgeni Malkin is doing okay in the KHL:   CrosbyFTW has the full cap. Their breakdown on Malkin: Evgeni Malkin - The goal was only Malkin's 2nd in 9 games, but certainly a step in the right direction.  He had 7 shots in over 23 minutes of ice time as he continues to throw the puck to the net with every chance he gets.  Overall, he had a strong game...

Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals ended the Boston Bruins' season prematurely in the 2012 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. Hockey returned to ESPN when the network aired the KHL match between Dynamo Moscow and HC Lev Praha on Tuesday afternoon. The match was not only historic in the fact it was the first time Russian hockey appeared on the ESPN family of networks, but also because it brought Steve Levy back to hockey play-by-play for the first time since 2004. Joining Levy was Barry Melrose doing the...
