During the last two seasons, David Legwand has come up big in the post season for the Nashville Predators.

In 12 post-season games one year ago, Legwand picked up 6 goals and 3 assists for 9 points against Anaheim and Vancouver.

Against Chicago in 2010, Legwand was in on 7 of Nashville’s 15 goals in a six-game losing cause, including 2 goals and 5 assists.

This post season, Legwand will be looked to again to help power Nashville’s offense, playing on a line with Alexander Radulov.

With most of the experts picking Nashville to get passed Detroit in the first round of the playoffs, and likely poised for a deep playoff run, the pressure is on the Predators, though you wouldn’t know it by talking to Nashville’s first ever draft pick.

“Yeah, there are going to be ups and downs in any playoff series, but you have to be ready to go and move forward,” Legwand said when asked about the pressure and expectations on Nashville this post season.

Legwand has been with the Predators for every playoff run the franchise has ever had, including the previous two times Nashville and Detroit faced one another in the playoffs. During the 2004 playoffs, Legwand had one goal in six contests for Nashville. In 2008, Legwand had one goal in three games.

The Detroit native says it would be nice for the third time playing the Red Wings to finally be the charm for Nashville.

“We’ll find out. That’s why we need to play the games. Hopefully it is. It was a positive finish to the regular season. But I think the real season starts now. Guys are excited and happy to get going. It is going to be fun. It should be a good series. Getting into it early is better than sitting around just waiting to go,” he said.

During the 2011-12 regular season, Legwand became the first player in franchise history to hit the 500-point mark when he picked up two assists against the Chicago Blackhawks on March 31st.

Legwand leads the Predators in most post-season goals and is tied with Martin Erat for most post-season assists. In 37 playoff games, Legwand has 22 points, including 10 goals and 12 assists. Three of the center’s playoff tallies were scored shorthanded, including Nashville’s first ever home playoff goal, scored exactly eight years ago from Wednesday.

Game one of the Western Conference quarterfinal is Wednesday night at Bridgestone Arena. The puck drops shortly after 7 pm CDT.
