Found March 12, 2013 on Kukla's Korner:
This is cute. The Detroit Red Wings switched up small, skilled forward prospects on Tuesday, recalling Gustav Nyquist from the Grand Rapids Griffins and sending down Tomas Tatar to their AHL affiliate. Deep Digger Captain Ansar Khan(!!!) offers nothing other than that, as in no quotes or commentary. But it's enough, really. Is this franchise trying to prove that stupidity can be common? Is this some fairy tale I'm living through? Am I in Denver? Continue reading "Let’s Play A New Game. We’ll Call It…“WTF Are You DOING?”"

MLive’s Savage talks to Red Wings forward Darren Helm about ‘turning the corner’

MLive's Brendan Savage posted a story about Darren Helm's slow but finally steady recovery from a torn disc and/or ligament in his lower back. Helm's accompanying the Wings on their Western Canadian swing to take part in practices with the team: "It'll be nice to be on the road," Helm said. "Get back on a plane, dinner, share some time with the...

Ken Holland talks to The Fan 960 about the state of the Red Wings

Ineresting stuff: via RedWingsFeed, Red Wings GM Ken Holland spoke to The Fan 960 this morning, discussing the Wings' status as a "goal-challenged," and prospect-heavy due-to-injuries team, Damien Brunner's signing, the Wings' move to the Eastern Conference (sort of) and Holland's local ties to Calgary: Continue reading "Ken Holland talks to The Fan...

Nicklas Lidstrom will be featured on a stamp…As will Salming, Lundqivst and…Jorgen Jonsson?

According to both Aftonbladet's Linus Nordberg and Expressen, former Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom will soon find his visage on a Swedish postage stamp, just like Peter Forsberg... But Lidstrom, Borje Salming, Henrik Lundqivst and less-than-successful NHL'er but Swedish World Championship hero Jorgen Jonsson will all be featured on stamps that the Swedish Posten (postal...

Brendan Smith Fights Derek McKenzie: Video

Earlier this season, Columbus Blue Jackets forward Derek McKenzie sidelined Detroit Red Wings defenseman Brendan Smith for 11 games with a hard hit that injured Smith’s shoulder. Sunday, Smith got a bit of payback. After the two again came together in Detroit’s zone during a 3-2 Columbus shootout win, Smith and McKenzie then dropped the gloves with about 15 minutes left in the...

Cloudy forecast at halfway point for Wings

DETROIT -- In a lockout-shortened season, things can change quickly for every team, including the Detroit Red Wings. Now that they've passed the midway point of the season -- 26 games into a compressed, 48-game schedule -- let's take a look at where they stand before they head out on the road. Things were looking pretty good before this past weekend. The Wings were in a...

What Would You Pay Jimmy Howard?

Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal notes... The Detroit Red Wings will have to buck up for Jimmy Howard this summer when he’s an unrestricted free agent. Is he worth Kari Lehtonen’s $5.9 million, which starts next season? That’s an overpay by the Dallas Stars. But I’d say Howard should go from $2.25 million to $5 million. They don’t have a backup. He’s their guy...

Are the Red Wings ‘thinner,’ or younger, leaner and enduring a ‘rebuilding year?’

This story wouldn't fit into the Red Wings-Flames game-day update post, and that's probably a good thing. The Globe and Mail's Alan Maki suggests that the Red Wings have essentially fallen from grace and fallen back to the pack due to their personnel losses over the past couple of seasons and/or salary cap restrictions, and their coach and players don't necessarily...

Video blog: Wings' road play path to playoffs

With 14 of the Detroit Red Wings remaining 22 games on the road, it is absolutely imperative that they improve their play away from the Joe.

GDT - Game 27: Red Wings (12-9-5) at Flames (9-11-4) 9:30

GDT Plus today, *******.  There is Trouble in Paradise, much more than the diggers are letting on.  It is "Huge," Babcock said. "It's not even the trip, it's tomorrow. We got a game tomorrow. We've got one out of a possible four points here lately. We need to get back on the winning side of things."  Yea Mike, and you better friggin find some urgency...

Red Wings-Flames Preview

The Detroit Red Wings' power-play futility on the road is in danger of sinking to a depth not seen in 25 years. Still searching for their first road power-play goal, the Red Wings hope to continue their recent success in Calgary while handing the Flames a season-high fourth straight loss Wednesday night. Detroit (12-9-5) ranks near the top of the league in converting power...

Good News, Great News, Amazing Game Day Movie Poster

Due to an insane amount of travel for work I haven't actually been able to watch a single Red Wings game since what seems like 1985, in reality I haven't watched since the 2-1 win over the Sharks back on February 28th. It sounds like I didn't miss much. The Wings have been trapped in some alternate version of 2013 where  Dan Cleary and Justin Abdelkader are considered...
