The strong starts of the New Jersey Devils and Tampa Bay Lightning seem long forgotten as both continue to fight through their current struggles. New Jersey, though, has been successful in most of its recent matchups with Tampa Bay, and it seeks an 18th victory in 21 games between the teams on Tuesday night. The Devils (10-7-5) began the season 8-1-3, but they've gone 2-5-2 since and have lost five straight after falling 4-2 at Toronto on Monday. Marek Zidlicky scored twice for New Jersey, which has been outscored 19-9 during its skid. "Sure there's frustration,'' coach Peter DeBoer said. "We're getting a couple of goals a game. When you don't get rewarded for trying to do the right things with wins, it gets frustrating.'' The Devils haven't won since Martin Brodeur began suffering from a sore back after he beat Washington on Feb. 21. The veteran, who went 5-1-1 with a 1.84 goals-against average in seven starts prior to the injury, r...

Tom Pyatt scores a goal off his face

Tampa Bay Lightning forward Tom Pyatt scored unconventionally against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday night.  His teammate Keaton Thompson went to shoot the puck and fired it a little bit high, catching Pyatt right on the nose.  The puck then took an odd bounce off his nose and went past Marc Andre-Fleury, who was not prepared for the last-second change of direction.  Pyatt...

Evgeni Malkin scores a goal of the year candidate against Tampa Bay Lightning

After he abused the Tampa Bay Lightning with the goal of the year last season, Pittsburgh Penguins superstar Evgeni Malkin decided that his first game back since suffering a concussion was the right time to do it again.  Unfortunately for Tampa Bay, they seem to not have learned their lesson about giving Malkin the puck in space.  Lightning defenseman Eric Brewer dove to try and...

New Jersey (10-8-5) might have bottomed out by falling...

More Realignment Talk

from David Shoalts of the Globe and Mail, If the latest proposal for NHL realignment is shot down again by the players, the deal-breaker will be the playoff format. “That’s the big thing, the evenness in making the playoffs,” New Jersey Devils goaltender Johan Hedberg said Monday. Hedberg, though, doesn’t like the word deal-breaker, adding he expects there will be...
