Everything that could have went against the Lightning did as they lose their sixth straight after the loss to the Washington Capitals 4-3.  The Lightning were outshot 12-6 in the first period but managed to go into the intermission tied at 1-1. But a bad attempt on a glove save by Mathieu Garon and turnovers once again led to goals for the opposition. In the third period, a shot from on top of the circle from Washington’s Eric Fehr made it pass the glove of Garon to make it 3-1. Later, it appeared that Garon had the puck covered to force the ref’s whistle but the Caps’ Jay Beagle’s stick was also underneath Garon and managed to squeeze the shot out from underneath Garon and into the net to make it 4-1. That sequence of events started when Keith Aulie was unable to clear the puck out of the corner in the defensive zone. Tampa Bay would get two goals in the final eight minutes from Nate Thomspon and Teddy Purcell but were unable to get the tying goal to force overtime in the closing minutes. After starting 6-1-0, the Lightning now sit 6-6-1. They were outshot 39-30 in the game, making it six of the last seven they have been outshot.
