The Tampa Bay Lightning may be coming off their worst offensive performance of the season by their standards, but Steven Stamkos and Martin St. Louis are major reasons they're the highest scoring team in the NHL. Just over a week ago, the Philadelphia Flyers fell victim to that potent offense yet again. Stamkos and St. Louis look to continue their respective scoring tears with another strong performance against the Flyers, as the Lightning attempt to maintain their dominant stretch in this series Tuesday night. Tampa Bay (6-2-0) is scoring 4.9 goals per game, leading the league by more than a goal. Stamkos and St. Louis have keyed that tremendous production with 16 and 14 points, respectively. Stamkos, who led the NHL with a career-high and franchise-record 60 goals last season, has a point in every game so far and has six goals and five assists in a five-game goal-scoring streak. St. Louis has nine assists during a five-game point streak of his own, and he got four of them...

Fantasy hockey: Lightning riding Lindback

Anders Lindback has become "The Man" for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Fantasy hockey: Lightning riding Lindback.Veteran Mathieu Garon made what was only his second start of the season on Saturday, a 3-2 loss to the New York Rangers. When asked why Garon was seeing so little action, coach Guy Boucher pulled no punches, saying that the team is focused entirely on turning the...

Lightning's Lecavalier day-to-day with bone bruise

An MRI on the foot of Tampa Bay Lightning captain Vincent Lecavalier revealed only a bone bruise, and he is listed as day-to-day as of Sunday. Lecavalier, 32, has four goals and seven assists in eight games this season for Tampa Bay. The Lightning's next game is against the Flyers in Philadelphia on Tuesday, and Tampa Bay plays the New Jersey Devils on Thursday.

Worst Player So Far This Season

One thing I have found interesting is to try to identify the worst regular in the NHL in a season. It is interesting to see what kind of player continues to be given playing time despite failing with it. So far this season I think our inept leader has been Brian Lee of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Lee is a big hard working defenceman who hits and blocks shots. He is a former first...

Video: B.J. Crombeen-Zac Rinaldo Brutal Hockey Fight

“Tuesday Night Fights” might not be around any more, but apparently no one told Tampa Bay’s B.J. Crombeen or Philadelphia’s Zac Rinaldo. During the Flyers’ 2-1 win over the Lightning Tuesday night, Crombeen and Rinaldo – two known tough guys – engaged in a most brutal display of fisticuffs. Rinaldo scored the knockout – almost literally – by pummeling Crombeen with...

Lightning drop first game of road trip to the Flyers

The Lightning traveled to Philadelphia to play the Flyers in the first game of their four game road trip. But many times throughout the game the Bolts looked as tired as if they were on the back-end of the trip. Tampa Bay pulled off just 22 shots on goal, only five in the second period. Poor puck handling by the Lightning could have resulted in a bigger deficit but goalie Anders...

Flyers 2, Lightning 1

Tom Sestito scored his first two goals in three years to lead the Philadelphia Flyers over the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 on Tuesday night. Ilya Bryzgalov made 21 saves, shutting down the NHL's highest-scoring team to help the Flyers win their second straight game and improve to 4-6. The Lightning, who entered averaging 4.9 goals per game, had dominated the series, winning seven...

Sestito-ed: Flyers Fight off Tampa Bay

Trying to build off the momentum from Saturday’s win over Carolina the Flyers came out hard against the Lightning tonight. B.J. Crombeen, who mixed it up pretty good with Flyers captain Claude Giroux in the two teams last meeting, dropped […]
