Found March 17, 2013 on The Bay Cave:
The Tampa Bay Lightning were able to get some goals on the board in a crucial division win Saturday night over the Carolina Hurricanes 4-1.  The Bolts were ignited by the play of their rookies. Tyler Johnson and Ondrej Palat set the offensive examples for the game with the goals.  “I thought Johnson, Palat and Tyrell gave us momentum from their shift on the ice,” coach Guy Boucher said. “They were everywhere on the ice. We know they have skill. We know they are fast and we know they work hard.” But the true highlight of the game was goaltender Mathieu Garon. Garon stopped 21 of 22 shots faced and improved his save percentage to .915. That ranks him 18th in all the NHL for goalies in save percentage. Tampa Bay now sits seven points back from the division leader Winnipeg Jets. Speculation: Martin St. Louis To The Rangers?

Damian Cristodero, a Tampa Bay Lightning beat writer with whom I am familiar and respect, has initiated speculation on Martin St. Louis' future with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Though he admits there is no indication that either he or the Lightning have taken any steps towards moving him, it's a discussion that likely will happen. The Lightning are not in the playoff picture...

Would Tampa Bay Lightning trade Martin St. Louis?

So this is pure speculation and makes sense only Martin St. Louis, with a no-move clause in his contract, determines leaving gives him the best chance to again play for a winner before he retires. Consider these circumstances: When St. Louis in July 2010 signed a four-year, $22.5 million contract extension, he did so with the notion the organization, under new ownership and management...

Who sits after Pitkanen returns?

The Hurricanes have a couple of decisions to make regarding their current defense corps and no, I am not talking about them making a trade. This issue is a little more immediate, as Joni Pitkanen will be returning to the lineup soon and the Hurricanes are going to have to figure out who will sit to make room for him in the lineup. The team started the year with seven defensemen on...

Staal Still "A Ways Out" In Healing Process

In an interview with Viv Bernstein at the New York Times, Carolina's Eric Staal gives us this update on brother Marc's eye injury... “He’s doing O.K. It’s just about the swelling and taking time for everything to kind of settle down. Obviously, everybody saw the shot, how hard it was, but he’s continuing to meet with the doctors daily, and they’re giving him...

The book on Adam Hall

The Hurricanes added some depth to their bottom-six today by acquiring forward Adam Hall off waivers. Hall has been in the league for 10 seasons and has spent the last four years with the Tampa Bay Lightning. He has a few 10+ goals seasons under his belt, but his best assets are his defensive play and faceoff prowess. He will play his first game for the Hurricanes tonight against...

Teddy Purcell leads Lightning past Flyers

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Teddy Purcell scored the tiebreaking goal midway through the third period and the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-2 on Monday night. Purcell's in-close deflection at 9:25 of the third came shortly after the Lightning killed off a short-handed situation. Ondrej Palat, Tom Pyatt and Steven Stamkos also scored for Tampa Bay, which improved...

Tampa Bay overpowers Carolina in 4-1 win

In any given season, there are always teams who have each other's number. Last year, the Hurricanes had the Bruins number, sweeping them in a four game series and this year, it seems the Lightning have played their best games of the season against the Hurricanes. After their 4-1 win tonight, the Lightning have won all three of their matchups against Carolina this year and have...

Flyers-Lightning Preview

After snapping a lengthy home losing streak, the Tampa Bay Lightning will try to keep heading in the right direction with another dominant performance against the Philadelphia Flyers at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. The Flyers, meanwhile, will seek to build off a hard-fought win and avoid a season high-tying fourth consecutive road defeat Monday night. Tampa Bay (12-15-1) ended its...
